Hi. I’m not sure if this group is still going but are there any Welsh speakers/learners in Winchester?
Hi, I know Covid has put paid to meet ups this year but thought I’d post in this thread in case things kick off again. I’m in Swanmore which is between Southampton and Portsmouth and not far from Winchester either. Cheers, Max
Hi Alan - I’m a second-language Welsh speaker, although a bit rusty these days. I live in Ryde, and would be happy to meet up for a natter sometime.
Pob hwyl, Chris
Hi Natalie
I’m also happy to have a chat sometime, if others are still interested. I live in Ryde but can travel island-wide.
Pob hwyl, Chris
There are a couple of groups in the area that might be of interest:
This group meets in Fareham, twice a month on a Saturday morning:
And this one meets every Monday morning in Bishop’s Waltham
Shwmae Chris, Well done on finding this older thread. Would be very happy to meet up in either Ryde or Newport (I’m in south-west Wight). The Bargeman’s would be a good meeting-place in Newport, or I’ll leave you to suggest somewhere in Ryde. Late morning or early afternoon would suit me best. Direct message me if that’s easier.
(If my memory serves me correctly, Natalie moved from the Island to North Wales a few years ago.)
Hwyl, Alan.
Hi Alan & Chris
I’m also on the Island in West Wight. I’m quite new at Welsh so would massively benefit from meeting & chatting with you both
Sally
Hi Sally, I’ve messaged you directly. Alan.
Helo. My name is Anne Allen and I live in Bembridge and have been learning Welsh for a few years. Our 3 sons all live in Wales. I would be interested to know if you arrange to get together. It would be good to try and chat! Diolch. Anne
Hello Anne - sorry for the late reply! I am still interested in meeting up with others. Seems there are at least four of us interested. If still relevant, Alan’s idea of meeting in Newport seems like a good idea as it is central. But Ryde would suit me too, as I live there lol! Hwyl am nawr, Chris
Hi Alan - sorry for the late reply! If still interested, I would certainly be interested in meeting at the Bargemans. Crepe Lovers near the Bus Station would also be a supportive venue for this kind of group. Pob hwyl, Chris
@chris-gale just a tip - if you put the @ symbol before someone’s name, it gives you suggestions and you can select the person. That means they get notified that you’ve written something to them - like this @anne-allen @AlanP
Many thanks Deborah - I’ll try and remember that - hopefully I will get the hang of the new language (to me!) of this forum. Diolch yn fawr, Chris
Hi @sally-hall-1 - apologies for the late reply and for any duplication of messages - I’m a novice on this kind of forum! Still happy to meet up if that is still of interest, or join any group that has been meeting since we were last in touch. Hwyl, Chris
Hi @chris-gale, Yes we could certainly meet up at the Bargeman’s. I suggest a good time would be c.11am for a coffee, with the option of a bit of lunch if we chose. I won’t be available for the next week (including replying to messages), but should be free from around the 15th July.
I looked in Crepe Lovers yesterday – very nice but I would say a bit confined space-wise? By contrast, there should be plenty of room at the Bargeman’s for us to find a corner to try out our Cymraeg.
So far, @sally-hall-1 and myself have managed one single Zoom chat. Perhaps Sally and @anne-allen would like to join us at the Bargeman’s?
Hi Chris, I’m sorry for not replying sooner, I did see your message but we’ve had visitors. They’ve gone home today.
Yes I’d love to meet up. I can see Alan has suggested Bargemans, sounds great to me
Hi Alan. I’m so sorry, life has got in the way! I’ve been going back & forward to the mainland to support family that have had a baby. It had to be a c section so I’ve been away more than I thought. I’m back there on 24th of this month for a few days, then will have more time. In the meantime we’ve had friends staying that have gone home today.
The Bargeman’s sounds perfect so if I’m available I’ll definitely join you all there
Hi Chris. Thank you for your reply. I am not quite sure how this works, whether everyone on this feed will see my response, I assume so. I live in Bembridge but would be happy to come to The Bargeman’s at some point. Hitting the busy holiday season & we go away shortly, home on Sunday 20th July then a bit of a breather before family start arriving till the end of August. If you can let me know of any potential meeting then I will try and join you. Diolch yn fawr. Anne
Happy to find fellow siaradwyr here on the Isle of Wight. I am living in Carisbrooke and more than happy to meet-up for a chat anywhere on the island.
Hi Ian - good to hear from you! I’m away at the moment (typing this in Cardiff) but there may be a one-off meeting at the Bargeman’s shortly for the four or five of use who are interested. Will keep you posted, Chris
