I have been working on a non-fiction book about garden birds suitable for intermediate learners. The aim is for readers to build their vocabulary, so there’s a fair amount of repetition and the focus is on learning new words rather than new grammar.
Each chapter is about 200 words of relatively simple Welsh, an annotated image of the bird in question, plus a vocabulary list.
I’ve roughed out a few different layouts for the content and the vocabulary, and I would love to get feedback about what works best. There’s only four chapters in this sample, each with a different layout/order.
If you’d like to be a ‘beta reader’, please message me with your email address and I’ll send you the PDF and a short questionnaire for feedback.
My Welsh isn’t good enough yet to be a proofreader, but when the book is published I’d be very interested in buying it. I do love birds, and the notes on regional variations sound really interesting.
(Also, i hope this bump to the top of the forum might help)
I read quite a few books for learners as it took me a long time to get used to written Welsh that I found very unfriendly.
I’d be glad to be a beta reader - email address will be in a PM in a minute.
Helo Suw, If it’s not too late to help, I would be happy to volunteer as a beta reader and would also be interested in purchasing the finished product. I’m a Welsh learner and love birds. I’m painting and sculpting them all the time. Two birds with one stone, you could say (groan!).

Hi Suw, very poor internet where I am right now. I’m very interested in birds and a good proof reader (I know you aren’t looking for proofreaders), email me if you’d like me to take a look. David Medcalf medcalfdavid050@gmail.com
Hi everyone! Thank you all for offering! I’ve just finished putting together the ebook, so I’ll be going through my messages soon and sending you the file and a link to a short questionnaire.
I’ve sent out an email to everyone who’s given me an email address, so please message me if you don’t receive it (though do check your spam folder first!).
I’ve really enjoyed the process, and have learnt a lot myself, so am already considering the my next book in the series. What would people be most interested in?
Ooh, gosh, also, thank you Peyton, Anne, Sophie, Pauline, b9fdd723, Rob, Gareth, Alison and Jason for offering as well. If you want to DM me your email address, I can send it to you also.
I’ll be doing another one early next year, though, so if you want to wait for that one, that’s also an option!!
