And a little later than planned (yes, that’s SSi Towers for you!) the first episode of the weekly chats for Growth Club members is now up and ready - with a transcript thrown in for our £20 a month members - no translation as yet, and as I posted the transcript I wondered if it would just be faster for you to ask for any words you don’t quite get? I could slog through a really literal translation, and I will do if that’s what you’d like most, but looking at it written down, it seemed that maybe letting you say which bits aren’t clear might be faster…
Shamefully showing my ignorance if I should know this already - how is it accessed???
Justin
Don’t worry. I don’t know this either yet. But the knowledge will come I presume …
It’s where the lessons are.
Thank you - I see it now
Justin
I think a translation would just make me lazy.
If I really get stuck I’d probably use Google translate.
Highly agreed. To be honest, lately, if I have some tool which enables me to be lazy at hand, I’d surely use it …
I was trying not to say that, but the genie’s out of the bottle now…
But chwarae teg, I’ll bet most SSiW learners won’t need a translation.
Listened to the episode this evening. I understood enough of it to get the gist of it, but also there’s enough to stretch me and make me relisten to it.
I liked the informal feel to it which took me right back to boot camp.
I enjoyed listening to it as well diolch.
Just need some sort of dictionary where I can look up words phonetically!
Listened to it, enjoyed, but (as honest as I am) didn’t understand much. Weill have another go tomorrow. Maybe my brains will be more capable of processing this all, who knows.
That sounds like you understand some, so that’s progress, (i certainly didn’t understand all, but it was good and clear).
Knowledge mountain is tall, but we are going in the right direction.
Cheers J.P.
Congratulations to all who all who understood more than ‘app’! I won’t be defeated, though. I opened the link to the BBC Cymru article and was very slightly wiser, then found the article in English (in the Technology section) on BBC Wales, and realised I barely understand it in my own language! I’ve listened to Aran and Catrin again now, and I can grab a few words, while a lot of others are floating past just out of reach. If we pay a bit more, can we choose what subjects you talk about in future?!
Umm, I believe that’s the catch … No subjects, just random something. We have to be fluent in every aspect of our life conversation don’t we?
And, if you’d feel better, I didn’t understand almost a bit. I know it is about some kind of tech talk, but all the rest is blank to me. Didn’t search for the article though. I’ll try to figure out during the day what this is all about.
And besieds, the conversations should be recorded once and “suitable” for all, those who pay the least and those who pay the most or there would have to be 3 types (or let’s say 2) of lessons recorded what I believe time is not allowing Aran and Catrin to do. That’s why those who pay more have someting more - if you pay 20 GBP you get transcription and (eventually) translation and if you pay 50 GBP you will be able to discuss the theme with Aran and ask whatever you need related to the theme of recorded “discussion”. And, as much as I could understand things, this is basically it.
Aran, If ever there was an offer that couldn’t be refused!!! Although with a slight modification it could be sweetened to ''If we pay a lot more …"
Justin
Maybe a poll for subjects? But actually, it’s got to be something that Aran and Catrin really want to talk about, so might as well just let them decide. Well I suppose if there were 20 conversations about Rygbi, my ears might just start to glaze over…
Glad you all managed to find it! Sorry - I did have a little ‘note to self’ to email out to all the GC members (which would have included an actual link to the sessions!)… may still do that…
Important - please bear very much in mind that although GC members are at different stages with their Welsh, and united only by their utterly wonderful and inspiring support for SSiW, this particular piece of content is naturally suited best for people who’ve done a lot of Welsh.
For earlier stage learners, think of this as a little weekly crash-test, and do NOT measure yourself against it - I would expect most of it to sound like a jet engine to people still on Course 1 and 2, to be honest. It will get more approachable as you work through Level 1 and do the daily accelerated listening exercises - but this is very much the top of the tree, so do NOT worry about not following it yet!
We’re deeply in love with our £10 and £20 supporters - we don’t as yet (entirely understandably!) have any £50 supporters, but I think as well as offering a weekly video hangout to discuss the topic further, it would be pretty easy to let £50 supporters choose the topics for us…
Let’s say you could take this is a test of yourself and how much you’ve learnt in time …
- You download conversation and listen to it
- you might not undestand a bit (but maybe those general words you’ve already learnt)
- you save conversation somewhere on your phone tablet or PC and forget it for a while
- you progress in learning and WO, YES THERE’S A CONVERSATION TO LISTEN SOMEWHERE, ISN’T IT!? Let’s see how much I understand now?
- and you listen to it understanding something more
- and again
- and again
- until one day ! YAY LOOK AT THIS! I CAN ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND IT ALL!
This is prety enough for me and I’m happy to listen to it at some point a month or two later …
The more conversations, the better, I’ll surely save them all.
I was thinking exactly the same thing, actually.
Ahem. Er, yes, this week’s new listening session is up and waiting for you
Last week? Was there a week last week? I, er, must have missed that…
It is now officially in my calendar as the first thing to do on Monday morning, sorry sorry sorry
