Llon-dain - The Touring London Meet Up

S’mae Pawb,

The next Llon-dain walk is on Sunday, 13th April at 2.00pm. We will be meeting at Tottenham Hale Station by the entrance on Ferry Lane and walking to Stratford over the Hackney Marshes and through the Queen Elizabeth Park. The walk is about five miles long but is flat. We have done this before but it started to rain at the beginning and got heavier and heavier until we were all soaked through - the weather looks better this time.

Just a reminder that this is a walk for learners of any level of Welsh so looking forward to seeing you all there. @Deborah-SSi @CatrinLliarJones

Hwyl,

Peter

Shwmae! There is a new channel in the Welsh Speaking Practice (WSP) Slack group for meetups and Welsh language events happening in Lloegr.

If you’re already a member there, feel free to post details of your meetups. If you’re not a member and you’d like to be, just let me know and I’ll send you an invitation.

Thanks Deborah. Don’t know much about WSP but I will happily post our walks their. Hwyl, Peter

Went on the same walk as a couple of years ago with much nicer weather. Will post a date for the next meet up. Hwyl, Peter

Although a walk in London it was mostly through countryside along or by the Lee River. The start was at Tottenham Hale and ended up in London’s Stratford walking over the Hackney marshes and Walthamstow flats.

I’ve just added you to the Lloegr channel in WSP @peterallen

The WSP is also a place where individuals can set up chats with others online. There are a few organised sessions, e.g. a Beginners one on Monday evenings, but it’s basically an open space for Welsh learners and new Welsh speakers to use.

Hi Suw, Is there a regular meet up in Reading? I’m in Basingstoke area and not a great deal of Cymraeg is heard in these parts.

Hi Gareth! Yes, there is! We tend to meet usually the first Monday of the month at the Rising Sun (or sometimes the Castle Tap) on Castle Street. However, our group is quite small so if people aren’t available, we move the meet up to a better day.

I’ll DM you our WhatsApp link – we’d love to see you!

S’mae Pawb,

The next Llon-dain walk will take place on Sunday, 29th June at 2.00pm. We have yet to decide a route to take but, as usual, it will be up to five miles long with Welsh chat for all levels. Put the date in your diaries and ‘watch’ this thread for more information closer to the walk. @CatrinLliarJones @Deborah-SSi

Hywl,

Peter

For the next Llon-dain on Sunday (2.00pm, 29th June) we are going back to our roots and meeting at the first walk we ever did (I think!) in Dulwich, South London. We will meet by the cafe in Dulwich Park which is shown on the map. There are two stations within a 15 minute walk, one is North Dulwich which is 15 mins from London Bridge and the other is West Dulwich which is just under 15 mins from Victoria. Remember this is a walk for any learner and of any level. The route will be similar to the one six years ago through the park and into Dulwich Woods and partly along an old railway track, and finishing for a quick drink. Look forward to seeing you there. Hwyl, Peter

If you are coming via Dulwich station then at least a couple of use will be there to meet the 1.30 train from London Bridge if you would prefer to meet this way.

Only four of us managed the heat on Sunday for the Llon-dain walk but it was a good one and relatively ‘cool’ in the wood where most of the walk took place (nice and shady in the pub garden too!). The photograph is the old entrance to a railway that went to Crystal Palace when the Exhibition was there.
