I’ve just downloaded the new app onto my phone. Can someone tell me the difference between the new app and Automagic?
Good question. I am confused with all the products now available. I am utilising the SSiW ‘challenges’ as part of my learning. Now on Level 2, Challenge 20. I have also used ‘Automagic’ and now this latest App. Is it intended that learners should use all three products in a ‘blended’ learning experience, or will some of these products be discontinued? Thanks.
Hi Bill, I’m sure someone will come up with the answer soon.
Hi all, I’m working on getting a clear explanation of everything to you very soon. leave it with me and I’ll come back to you.
The new App represents the “next generation” Automagic if you like - which was only ever available via the Web.
So, what are the differences:
-
the new App is available on the Web or an iPhone or an Android - and you can switch between them whilst learning if you want (e.g different places, different times of day).
-
the single App will also offer the full range of courses that we have in a single place (and access points to all the historical content via My Resources - under My Account).
-
new courses can simply be made available in the new App - and will appear as options. This is important as will be a lot more courses which will be far better - by Aran’s measure - and more comprehensive than before.
New courses will be released on a frequent basis - I can already see three additional languages at Alpha status in the App - in my language drop down choice - so it won’t be long!
So, the App represents a refresh in technology terms - which allows your courses/ learning progress to be with you wherever you are, but more significantly, provides the platform for us to provide more learning options to you, quickly and easily…
Hopefully that’s a good thing!
Rich
Thanks. So I can ‘drop’ everything bar this new App and use it as my ‘one-stop-shop’ for my learning?
Follow-up question about pricing strategy. Do extra languages come at extra cost, or still included in my £10 pcm sub? This question may have been asked elsewhere. Apologies for asking again if it has. Thanks.
Basically yes. It will give you a ‘one-stop portal’ into everything that we have - with the new stuff coming up first, but everything else accessible through My Resources.
One subscription - access to everything!
Getting the hang of the new App. I like it now I’ve had a chance to explore and understand how it is constructed. As we move to this being the ‘one-stop-shop’ for all learning, will the weekly emails which prompt us to step up to the next Challenge cease? I am relaxed either way. I do find them helpful, but I am also quite disciplined all the same in making an effort to study something daily. I do use the ‘Pause’ functionality when I need to take more time studying a particular Challenge.
I progressed to ‘Blue’ belt this morning! Really pleased about that. But the ‘My Statistics’ tracker hasn’t updated the ‘Date reached:’ field. Should that be showing today’s date, or is there some lag in the system? Thanks. Bill
Excellent work @Bill_Evans !
That field is rather weirdly.worded isn’t it……technically today is zero days ago but we don’t usually say that!
I’ll feed that back.
Thanks for your help
Rich
I’m trying out the app and am missing some functions that I valued when using automatic - like being able to easily see how long I’ve been at it and changing the speed. Maybe these will be incorporated into the app eventually.
I can see that having all the offerings in one place is good for SSiW. I’m only interested in learning Welsh and for other people, the additional languages would be a big bonus.
I’ll keep using it for a bit longer and maybe will lose my draw towards automagic eventually.
Hi @Aberteifi
Great thanks for the feedback. The Stats should give some feedback on the learning time by day, I’m not sure if you’ve seen that…as it happens the next major version will have the option of a timer on the learning screen for those who want it on.
One of the major drivers for the App and multiple languages is to enable the company to reach further with its language offerings and put what it earns back into better courses - Welsh in particular obviously.
So in that respect the multi-lingual aspect of the App will benefit each individual language in terms of quality of content.
Dal ati and let us know how you get on!
Rich
Diolch @rich. Yes, I had seen the stats section but looking at stats pauses the learning so I’ll be really glad to see the timer introduced. It motivates me to keep going!
I can really see the benefits the new app will bring to the brand and some learners so I will persevere and hope that it becomes my new familiar soon.
Hi @rich. My stats seem to be a bit messed up. I do at least an hour a day almost every day but the system doesn’t seem to recognise that.
We are in the process of rewriting them to make them more compatible with the new system - a work in progress
Hi @CZMCZM
Ok, so that is an interesting one - can I double check whether that was an hr a day in the new App or Automagic, just to help the analysis…
What happens if you log out and back in again?
Let me know and we’ll have a quick look on your account.
Rich
Glad I found an interesting one
The practise was all via automagic via the browser. When I log out and in again I seem to have done even less.
