What's the difference

Hi @michelle-37

Firstly, can I double check whether you logged in with the same email as you used with Automagic before?

It is also fine to log in with social media which maps to the same address - as long as you make the address visible when you log in (otherwise the system won’t see it and can’t do a match).

[ Apple and Google offer you this choice when you log on the first time (and you can change it in Settings).]

If you did, the App does have your progress.

We have discovered that there are few records that the old Web app slightly mysteriously didn’t mark as complete - so the new App is doing a ‘completer finisher’ type of thing and getting ticks in those boxes!

Those dozen or so records are scattered through the course but there are a few towards the beginning - which makes it feel like you’ve gone backwards - but having done them, it will carry on.

Lots of people are now confirming this to be the case.

If you have logged in with the same address/ or as above, I’d be interested in looking at the stats on your account if that is ok.

Let me know,

Rich :slightly_smiling_face:

How does the new App calculate how much learning I do daily? See attached. I haven’t done any learning today (25th October), but ‘My Statistics’ believes I have. Very curious. Thanks.

Hmm, curious - @rich ?

OK that is very interesting!

We will have a look at your account if that is OK?

Can I check you are on a UK time zone?

Do you remember whether you had any signal or connection problems on the previous day, or another scenario whereby the progress may have caught up afterwards?

Thanks for your help,

Rich :slightly_smiling_face:

Sure. No problem. I am in UK. No connection problems. Thanks.

Hi again. Just about to do some learning this morning (30 Oct 2024). Logged on and the App shows this. Confused. I haven’t done any learning today, so what is the App counting? Thanks.

Out of interest, does that match what you did yesterday…actually I will switch to a PM so.everyone else is spared!

Rich :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes. Probably.

It might be worth keeping the conversation more public even when dealing with one account. I don’t think my daily minutes are particularly accurate but the weekly learning clearly didn’t add up what I’ve done in the last week, whether that is taken from a particularly starting day of the week or as the last seven days.

In many ways, it is only a statistic and pretty unimportant in the scheme of things, but flagging it along with the other guys if your are trying to iron out issues.

Hi @welshspringbok

Yes, it is only the detail about a particular person’s situation that tend to go via DM - they also tend not to be a great read.

Having got to the point where Stats anomalies got to the top of the list - comparatively recently - we have indeed found two thngs - one which is a very slight difference between the old Web App and the new App data format…and one which is an App Stats display bug.

Both will be fixed and rolled out during the course of the next week.

How do you find the stats? I was looking for them yesterday but couldn’t find them.

It’s the 3rd option from the left at the bottom of the new app - “Home”, “Learning”, “Stats”, “Account”

Now when you say ‘the new app’ I’m guessing you’re talking about a phone app. I’ve only had a mobile phone since November & only need it to respond to codes from my bank. I thought I’d downloaded the SSI app on it but it only shows me the same thing I get on my PC. Any ideas how I can get the download? As I say, I’m totally unfamiliar with mobile phones so I’m probably doing the wrong thing.

There is an old SSiW app hanging about still, but the new one is just called SaySomethingin - with an icon like a red speech bubble. There is a browser version of that too, so if you go to app.saysomethingin.com you’ll see what it looks like there.

You just go to your usual app store in your phone - Play Store if you use Android - and search for SaySomethingin - all one word with no spaces.

Did it, got it, thanks Deborah …

the original SSiW app, which was the one that played the audio lessons stopped working on Android. I can’t stand the new apps as they are intended to be visual as far as I can work out. Not much use for me as I listen to the spoken content when I am walking. However, it’s still possible to download all the content and listen to it on an old fashioned audio player on a phone…or even an mp3 player or ipod if you still have those

The new app is not intended to be visual. Certain people prefer the possibility to look at the written text alongside the audio, and the newest framework accommodates that. If you don’t want visual, you can simply turn off the display, and then you can listen while you walk.

I just took another look. On the old SSiW app I was on Level 3 when it stopped working. The new app offers Welsh North and South beta courses and starts back with the basics. Is there a way to accelerate the course to get to the right level?

At the moment you can only use Skip to move ahead one Introduction item at a time, which would take quite a while to reach the equivalent of Level 3.
We’re working on some additional navigation that would allow you to get there more quickly, but it’s still in development.
