Here in the northeastern U.S., we have the famous Brood X periodical cicadas, who emerge every 17 years. Here’s the first one I spotted, on a picnic a couple of weeks ago.

This turned up in a pot in my garden as a mystery plant a couple of years ago. This year it flowered for the first time and, a great surprise, it turns out to be an orchid!
If you look very carefully on the right of the photo (click to enlarge) just below the horizon, you can just make out one of a group of 3 or 4 dolphins (dolffiniaid) spotted just off the coast at Nant Gwrtheyrn last week
