The To Bach utility does not only help with Welsh

Learners of Welsh will probably know about the “To Bach” program from Interceptor Solutions that you can use to help typing the special characters you need in Welsh.

(It’s Windows-only I’m afraid).

Well, it can already be helpful in some other languages, and you can also configure it to add extra characters of your own choice. It’s a bit fiddly, but do-able. Just make sure you back up the configuration file.

The “To Bach” utility by Interceptor Solutions is not just for Welsh… …that is to say, it can also produce things like umlauts, acute accents, grave accents, and a few other things. So whereas for ŵ you press AltGr and “w” at the same time, for some of these other characters, you press what they refer to as a “modifier”. For acute accent, the modifier is “/” (slash).
