Saving S4C

I agree with Tatjana - everything that can be done is always worth doing… :sunny:

Diolch yn fawr!! It’s 577 just now. I’ll wait to see how quickly it rises. I don’t want to wait too long or send it too quickly!!

Happy New Year to all.
Re S4C - I am sad that this channel doesn’t appear to be accessible on Borneo anymore. I used to watch it from time to time as a break from SSiW and the Now You’re Talking programmes. Hope it’s not a conspired nail in the coffin for the Welsh language.
Not really computer literate - don’t know what to do about the issue.
And still stuck on Level 1 Challenge 12/13 for over a month now - but strangely enough not giving up and still enjoying learning at my own pace.
Enjoy 2016

Happy new year to you too.

And … to what I remember, Level 1 Challenge 12/13 are quite hard. You will come around them at one point, I’m sure.

Oh dear!! I believe some of the others have found better access just lately. We have a thread on S4C programs. I’ll put a request on there to see if anyone can help you!! @stella says she sees the S4C International page… I guess that’s a web site. We are going to ask @tatjana if she can help you because she is good with computers and my knowledge is about 25 years out of date!!!

Yes, I meant the website! http://www.s4c.cymru/en/international/
I don’t get Welsh TV in Belarus.

Many thanks for the link. It appears to work as I’ve just clicked on a random program. Cheers a bunch.

to @Deborah-SSi @aran and pawb.
Thank you so much for the ‘plug’ in the newsletter!! The numbers went from 597 to 650 virtually instantly!! I still do not have our friend in Brunei, Borneo, but the spread is very good and includes Fiji and, now, Argentina!! I am not sure how long tp let it run before sending it. Clearly we’ll never reach thousands!!!

It depends on when the deceision about funding plans is due to be made. You should maybe check out this first.

Good point. Don’t leave it too long.

The subject of S4C got a mention on Prime Minister Questions today.
Simon Hart MP asked for assurances from the PM of its continued support from the government.

The reply was vague but positive.

There’s a summary of the parliamentary debate on the Future Funding of S4C here:

(Apologies if this one has already come up, I haven’t been following this thread very closely).

I’d missed that! Thanks. I see it was only on Tuesday. I’ll send an e-mail to Simon Hart giving him the link to the petition and asking about time tables!!

to @Deborah-SSi, @aran a phawb
I tried to e-mail Simon Hart MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire who raised S4C’s funding in an excellent adjournment Debate and asked a question at PMQs. As he is a Tory, I did hope the Government might take some interest in his views. I wanted to ask his advice on when to submit the petition. I got back a standard reply, but not quite the one I’m used to from MPs. His spends all its space telling you that if you do not live in his constituency…GO AWAY!!! (It is a bit more polite, but in effect, that’s what it says!).
I have been advised by Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Cymraeg to write to my own SNP MP, which I have done. I have send a message to S4C.
Could anyone with an MP in Cymru help by asking him/her the deadline by which a petition would have to arrive to do any good?

I’ll try ours in Ceredigion. I write to him fairly frequently so he must be getting used to me by now.

I got that standard reply from an MP once when I wrote to them about an issue and I wasn’t in their constituency. I think it’s just something they do.

EDIT: I’ve emailed Mark Williams and sent him the link to the petition. I’ll report back when I hear from him.

I sent Mike Russell’s reply to @dee as well as my letter to Simon Hart. My SNP MP was so supportive, he even signed the petition!! He also suggested that all MPs from Welsh Constituencies should be told of the petition. Since they may simply have a filter like Simon Hart’s, I am asking any of you who live in Wales and care about S4C to e-mail your MPs to tell them and send them the link

Prof. Russell suggested I submit the petition pretty quickly, but it gained about 10 signatures on Saturday, so I’ll wait a little while. Does anyone have contacts with the Scottish (Gaelic) Mod or the Breton or other Celtic Community equivalent? Telling them might help. I gather my MP has Mod connections!!

The petition has shot up to 720+ in a day and I don’t think I should submit it just yet, as it would be a shame to miss out on the interest created by the most recent developments!! If you are going to tell your MP about it, please do so quickly. If you have any contacts outside Wales who may be interested, please tell them quickly! Just generally, if you want to help in any way… please hurry!!
To @aran @Deborah-SSi @Iestyn I may even find time to learn some Cymraeg once the petition has been submitted!!!
