Just started on SSiW and struggling with this word - can’t quite tell how it is being pronounced. Is meddwl - methul or mevul?
Methul usually, but as some people pronounce “th” as “v” in English, it occasionally happens in Welsh too.

(you have to register, but it’s free, and I’ve never had any spam from them).
It doesn’t have pronunciations for every word, but does have it for a lot of them, and I’ve found it to be a very useful dictionary.
Croeso @ClaireWilliams! Welcome to the forum!
As @hectorgrey says, dd in Welsh usually sounds like the th in “breathe”. Forvo.com can be another useful place to check pronunciations. But never hesitate to come ask any questions here on the forum!
Thank you @hectorgrey; @mikeellwood and @AnnaC - very helpful. I’m really enjoying the course as I have always wanted to speak welsh
I know this is a super old thread but I am so glad to have found it. I thought Aran was saying Mefwl until I saw the spelling, after which I really tried hard to hear Meddwl, but I still can’t decide what I am hearing. I usually have a good ear for these things!
