New structured practice website for Welsh learners

I have just launched my new program of structured practice for Welsh learners, which is designed as a follow-on service, or even companion, to courses like SSiW or those provided by Dysgu Cymraeg.

I started making games and quizzes for myself to really nail down all that pesky grammar and to expand my vocabulary (and learn noun gender and verbnoun stems whilst I was at it!), and thought that perhaps it might also be useful for other people. And so https://ymestyn.cymru/ was born.

I have really noticed a difference in my own Welsh since I started using it myself, largely because I’ve been a very lazy learner over the years so have really only memorised the bits of grammar I use all the time. But to improve my confidence, I need to not just properly learn it all, but trust myself that I’ve learnt it. And that’s where these exercises come in.

I’ve designed it for people who’ve completed the basics, so you know how to create a basic sentence, you know what mutations are (even if you haven’t memorised them all), and you’ve probably finished the sylfaen-level courses. That said, if you’re a brave beginner you’ll also get a lot out of it.

So please do pop over to the new website and take a look – I’ve got it on sale for 50% off through til the end of March for early bird users.

Is this course using North or South Cymraeg ?

It’s both!

At some point, all learners need to be able to at least recognise alternate forms to the ones they use, so I am including everything and allowing the user to direct their focus as they wish.

For those learners based in Wales, it’s best to use the forms local to you; those outside of Wales can pick whichever forms feel right to them.

Diolch Suw! I’ll be sitting the Uwch exam this summer, so I look forward to trying it. I need all the drilling I can get.

Fantastic! I hope it helps!

It’s by no means complete at this stage, but I am adding stuff to it regularly.

I’ll let you know once I get started. If it helps, I’ll recommend it to my Dysgu Cymraeg tutor and classmates.

Thanks, Anne! I hope you enjoy it!
