Meeting up in Betws y Coed during Eisteddfod '19

Okay, some can make that time, some can’t and some need to check. Let’s agree 10.00am on Sunday anyway and I will post a venue on Saturday evening for somewhere in the centre of the village (or is Betws a town?) and we can see who turns up. As I am staying above the railway station where there are various shops and restaurants below I am expecting to suggest something there(ish).

Boss says yes :+1:

I’m only staying over in Betws on the Tuesday night but I hope to bump into many of you on the Maes on Tuesday. I’m keeping a close eye on that anti-cyclone creeping towards us. :worried:

As for previous Eisteddfodau, can I ask friends to forgive me if I don’t immediately recognise you - my memory is spectacularly bad now. When I go into Aberystwyth nowadays, I smile and nod at everyone just in case. Haven’t been arrested yet

We’d better make it Tuesday night then!

@ani just in case you wanted any info on a Betws meet up

Sorry Susan, missed this! Nope, fraid not - they’re crazy expensive and don’t really do much for us, so we try to focus on socialising - although I still harbour dreams of doing a proper stand and everything, perhaps when we have more courses available through the medium of Welsh…

I will be there from Wednesday through Saturday, driving up from Cardiff on Tuesday with a native Welsh speaker. I’ll probably be shell-shocked when I arrive. Staying in Betws, so thanks for the info on getting from there to the Maes. Is there any way of identifying ourselves as SSIWers—wear a red carnation?—so we can pick each other out of the other 25,000 people there? I might stand out, however; I’m Chinese. Staying over a Chinese restaurant.

I suggest we meet in Cadwaladers which is at the station next to the pizzeria. Earlier on from taking the pic there were chairs and tables outside but, if there is no room, I am staying in a flat above it so could retire there. So, 10.00am tomorrow. The other event organised by Aran is on Tuesday morning on the Maes.

I have decided that the path to learning Welsh is not a straight one. Went to the Maes tonight to get a ‘feel’ for it and was close to asking on one of the food stands what Archie’s Cow was. I stopped myself just in time.

Staying at lety betws which is other side or river, on main road to Eisteddfod.Stephrn and i walked in last night. Really.little on and not worth £10 each. Think today better with Shmae open. Did see lovely Bronwen from New Zealand and we joined in a Twmpath which was fun. Please look out for me. Grey haired old lady with bald husband.

That narrows it down a bit  If you feel like joining us at Cadwaladers at 10am today, come along. It’ll be good to know some faces before we’re all let loose on the Maes.

I don’t think Aran and I will be able to make it this morning I’m afraid. We spent an afternoon at the Eisteddfod yesterday and by the evening Aran’s back was in a terrible state and he was in quite a lot of pain. It was an early night dosed up with painkillers for him and he’s still resting. But we are here all week and hopefully we’ll see most of you on Tuesday! Enjoy your meet up!

I won’t be staying overnight in Betws now for reasons explained here but I hope to meet as many of you as possible on the Maes on Tuesday.

All Betws y Coed stayers (sorry but I had to restrict numbers somehow) are invited to supper at my Airbnb tomorrow (Monday) for about 7.00pm(ish) though turn up any time really (before 7.00pm I mean). It will be a vegetarian version but not vegan (and ingredients have come from Londis so after trying to remember my favourite recipe I have changed nearly all of it - I will buy some bars of chocolate in case all goes horribly wrong. You won’t be alone as a few have foolishly agreed to come already. The flat is above the railway station with the entrance door between the pizzeria and the bookshop. I will need to know who is coming so that I can work out how much to cook.

And to @HuwJones and his wife, I have a spare room if you want to come and stay overnight but it means you might have to help out with the washing up.

Ti’n dyn neis iawn, Peter. Diolch yn fawr. Dyn ni i gyd yn dod - pedwar bobl (ond mae ‘na problem fach adre felly mae ‘na siawns bach bydd rhaid i fi fynd adre a symud car :grimacing: - ond bydda i’n trio gwneud y yn y bore nesa os dw i’n gallu)

Flip - sorry - that should have been in English. Language lock clearly works both ways!

That’s extremely kind, Peter, but I’m resigned to “commuting”. Maureen will be stayimg at home to look after the kittens.
I look forward to seeing you on the Maes

Ahem QUICK for-Aran-read-CATRIN!

Seriously, Pete. We’ve met. I know perfectly well you’ve seen no signs of organisation from me so far, and I give you my word that’s not just for show :joy:
