Hi
Gareth King’s “Modern Welsh: A Comprehensive Grammar” is very expensive! Is this because it is out of print perhaps? Is it worth buying, and is it significantly better than earlier versions, which are a bit cheaper?

Yes, it is expensive but well worth it if you like to check up on grammar. My version is from 2002, so probably one of the earlier editions you refer to but even so, it’s still my go-to for checking that I’ve remembered things correctly from my university days, even though I still have other (even more expensive) Welsh grammar books from that time. I imagine the latest reprint is even better.

It is expensive, but unfortunately I have no say in pricing. I occasionally remind them that if they lowered they would probably get more purchasers, but they won’t listen! 
None of my books are out of print. 
The latest edition has some supplementary material - notably verb tables and a function/phrase appendix…so it IS expanded somewhat. And it is better laid out.

I ummed and ahhhed for a while before buying it as it is expensive - but glad I did. It’s worth every penny, and an EXTREMELY useful book that answered pretty much all of the things that had been puzzling me!

I wish I hadn’t ummed and ahhed. It is quite simply the best grammar book for any language I’ve ever studied. Clearly laid out, very readable and with particularly good linkages backwards and forwards within each section. I’m reading it sequentially at the moment, and it has clarified lots of questions, and after I’ve finished it, I know it will be a great reference source to go back over. Easily worth the money.

Might I suggest that, if you haven’t done so already, writing an online review wherever you purchased the book might help others who also hesitate due to the cost?

I can only apologise to you for what comes next, but as cost was an issue for me too (and apparently for others as well) I do want to share this discount action. It seems the book is now at 20% off at Routledge. Based on all the reviews here, it’s a no-brainer to order it now!

May I ask if your edition is 2015, I couldn’t find a more recent version.
I’ve seen 2015 and 2016 for the year, but it should be third edition for the most recent version.
