While we’re still looking forward to the Eisteddfod yn Pontypridd next year, plans are already getting underway for the 2025 Eisteddfod in Wrecsam - starting with the choosing of the team to lead the arrangements:
If you can’t make the Eisteddfod next year, how about setting 2025 as your goal and going along to the Eisteddfod in Wrecsam as a new Welsh speaker?

It’s time to think about volunteering for the Eisteddfod in Wrecsam! It’s a great way to use your Welsh with a variety of people, plus it gets you in free on the day you volunteer!
Great news! Our stewarding slots are now open. Once again this year we’re looking for hundreds of stewards to help us at the Eisteddfod. The week just couldn’t happen without the help and support of our stewards who are there to help all day every day.
Want to join the team? Here’s your chance! Click here to register and we’ll see you in Wrecsam in six months’ time. Diolch for all the support.
Looking forward to 2026!
We’re also looking for stewards for the 2026 National Eisteddfod Proclamation. The Proclamation event will be held in Narberth at 10:00 on Saturday 17 May 2025. We’ll be finished in plenty of time for anyone wishing to drive over to St Dogmaels for the local eisteddfod. So, if you’re available to help, click here to register.

Thanks for spreading the word!
I’ve submitted an application to be a steward on evenings/weekends, so will see if it’s taken further.
I was in a class in Cardiff with a learner who did volunteer stewarding in the Cardiff Bay Eisteddfod, and she said she found it very rewarding.

Hwre! We’re getting excited about Wrecsam already, here at work (S4C). I’ve already booked in my first session (I’m going to be hosting a panel in Maes D on the Monday). I hope to get the chance to meet more SSiWers!

Who’s going to the Eisteddfod? Perhaps you could post here if you know when you’ll be about and arrange to meet others in Maes D - the special pavilion for Dysgwyr!

Thanks Deborah - I was about to post about the Eisteddfod too.
It’ll be my first trip to the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol..almost exactly 5 years since I stumbled across SSiW and started my language journey.
Plus Wrecsam is the place my Dad’s side of the family are from, and so it feels like I HAVE to go whether I like it or not!
I could do with some advice-for-first-timers, and I could certainly do with knowing the best events/places to head for as a dysgwr/siaradwr newydd.
Looking forward to meeting up with fellow SSiW-ers. Diolch!

Tickets for this year’s Eisteddfod choir’s show, ‘Y Stand’, go on sale on Monday 16 June. With words by Manon Steffan Ros, and music by Osian Huw Williams, this is a heartfelt show about football, about winning and losing, and about the special connection that comes from supporting a team.
Tickets go on sale in two waves, so everyone has a chance to buy at a time that suits them. The first wave, which includes Saturday night’s performance of ‘Y Stand’, the Cymanfa Ganu and week-long tickets go on sale at 12:00 (midday) on Monday 16 June, with tickets for the Monday night performance of ‘Y Stand’ going on sale at 16:00.

Is there any information about shuttle busses from Wrexham town to the maes? (or other places to the maes)
Usually that information will be available through the official website eisteddfod.cymru , under the heading “Sut i gyrraedd y maes”. On that page they’ll give detailed driving instructions and other alternatives, like shuttle buses and/or public transportation. That said, I just checked the website and it seems the section is still missing.
(ETA: They’ll also be information in the FAQ, but that whole section is still from last year .. “Our 2024 volunteering opportunities are now full”
)

Ooh, how exciting!
My first suggestion, I think, would be to get the app (it’s possible they haven’t uploaded the 2025 version yet, but you should be able to get it on whichever source you use for your apps). That will have all the listings, as well as the map etc.
The next suggestion is Maes D - the learners’ village. It’s a great place to start, and a gentle introduction. I think they do introductory tours in the morning for those new to the Eisteddfod, which is a good way to find your feet. They will also have a really interesting programme of events through the week. (Come and listen to me on the Monday afternoon!!!)
I think then it’s going to depend on where your interests lie. There are so many things going on! The one thing that surprised me the first time I went was the Cymdeithasau tents - all sorts of talks about interesting things, which I perhaps wouldn’t have connected with the Eisteddfod. Many of these will have simultaneous translation available. Then there’s the Science Village, the Art exhibition, all the different performance spaces…
And all of the big exhibitors will have events throughout the week as well - the different University tents and so on. They usually put a board out in front to let people know what’s going to be happening that day, so it’s worth doing a little bit of a tour round to see what they are offering.
Come to visit us at S4C! Our team love to talk to learners, and there’ll be a programme of talks and special showings of things, as well as the fun/silly things to do on the stand.
Have you decided yet which days you’re going to be there?

Diolch Sara, that’s really helpful. I’ll be there from Wednesday on (am in London earlier in the week so I’ll have to miss your Monday event, sadly).
That’s given me some good pointers though, and I’ll definitely look out for the S4C stand.
Really enjoyed your recent interview on ‘Hefyd’ with Richard Nosworthy by the way.

Thanks, Thomas - that’s really kind of you to say
There’ll be loads to do from Wednesday onwards (and Wednesday is a great day to be there because of the Dysgwr y Flwyddyn competition and so on). I hope you have a great time!

I’d also suggest looking at the programme of events to see what performers / speakers will be there and which are likely to interest you - perhaps listen to some of the bands online so that you’re familiar with some of their songs and know who you must see, perhaps an author is doing a talk and you’ve had their book in your “to read” pile (we all have one right?) for a while - it could be nice to read that beforehand to give you some context with what they say. Or maybe a podcaster or presenter is there who you could look up.
I guess I find half of the fun is going there with anticipation for all the things that you’re excited to see - but equally the other half is going in open minded and discovering new exciting things!
However you approach it, if you go in with a sense of adventure I think you’ll have a great time!

Make sure you give yourself time to just wander, soak up the atmosphere, and stop to look at things that catch your eye.
I often go with a preplanned schedule of all the things I want to see, but end up abandoning half of them, as I come across something else and decide it looks more interesting … or my ears lead me to some amazing music happening in a smaller pavilion that I didn’t know about. The Eisteddfod is a place for surprises!

The aforementioned page with information of how to reach the Maes is now live.
Here is the Welsh version: Cyrraedd y Maes | Eisteddfod
And the English version: Getting to the Maes | Eisteddfod
They promise more detail to come, but there will be shuttle buses running from Wrecsam city to the Maes.
(From past experience the starting point of the shuttle buses will usually be near the train station)

Another “beginner” question: in your experience, do the booths accept payment by card? Or should I bring lots of cash? (I assume there is no ATM at the Maes?)
