Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2023 - Llŷn ac Eifionydd

Ardal @Hendrik top right

Any Pobol y Cwm fans coming along to the Eisteddfod?

And not to leave out the Rownd a Rownd fans…

And if you really want to fight it out…

I have some exciting news to share… I’m going to perform a small set at the stall “Cymunedoli” on Wednesday at 3pm
(Stall 401 - 405, near the main entrance)
I have literally just received confirmation that this is happening, so I don’t have a poster or anything, but please share far and wide, and I’d be grateful for any support

(The stall is also not far of Tŷ Gwerin, where Pedair will perform at 3:30pm, which kind of sets a hard limit to the length of my set, as I really want to see them myself)

Not strictly Eisteddfod thing but… we’re staying next to the chippy in Morfa Nefyn and I ordered our Haddock and Chips in Cymraeg. It felt great! Had a little wobble when I went blank, then speedily explained that I’m learning and want to practice and they kept speaking to me in Welsh, and then I was back on track with my Welsh too - so grateful for that!

The Eisteddfod app says there’s a shuttle bus (8N) that goes to the Eisteddfod from Morfa Nefyn. Need to work out where from and how that all works. Seems like it might be sensible to avoid the car if poss. Maybe it’s in the thread. Will search.

Edern/Morfa Nefyn/Nefyn/Eisteddfod hourly shuttle bus through the day. £2 adults, £1 kids.

It doesn’t say which bus stop to wait at though… I need to work that out.

On the Maes Carafannau - bumped into the nain of one of the children in Angela (my partner)'s class. The school is in Herefordshire, England.

@leiafee @robbruce nice, however this happens more or less everywhere in Wales throughout the year whenever you say a few words in Welsh

My heart is so full. Matilda and I are just back at our Morfa Nefyn Bwthyn after a wonderful day ar y Maes. We used the Bws Wennol there and back (took an hour to get there with the traffic!) but it all worked really well. Matilda got to have a go at playing a harp, saw lots of fabulous folk music, she got to use some of her Welsh and I got to use mine lots. I asked her what she learned from the day and she said that in Wales culture is for everyone. Pretty blooming astute for her 13 years. She must have had a good time because she’s saying she wants to come along on Thursday when I’ve got my solo Eisteddfod day planned!

She spontaenously learned a Raymond Williams “Culture is Ordinary”. This makes my heart happy too!

Yes, it’s an important lesson, and one that I hope she carries with her. We live in the “home counties” in England where there art for all is most definitely not the case.

Those in Llety Arall (@brennan @Hendrik @??) or elsewhere in Caernarfon: Any interest in syncing up for dinner one night?

I’m staying late the Maes tomorrow (Monday), Friday and Sat but otherwise am around.

I could be convinced! I’m going to the Eisteddfod Monday and Wednesday and will be wandering around Anglesey on Tuesday, then heading to London on Thursday. So maybe Tuesday or Wednesday then?

I live about 4 miles outside Caernarfon (in the Llanberis direction) so I’m up for any meetups in Caernarfon anytime.

Also just discovered the 1pm meetup on the Maes today (a couple of hours too late!), but hopefully will bump into some SSiW-ers later on anyway …

(Now happily living my life almost 100% in Welsh in the Fro Gymraeg, after joining SSiW in late 2014!)

Not in Llety arall but staying in Caernarfon so let me know when and I’ll be there!

Shall we say Wednesday night? There seem to be loads of places but I was thinking of Wal? It was nice when I went in there for breakfast anyway!

About 8PM?

Sounds good to me!
