Dydd Miwsig Cymru - Welsh Language Music Day 2025

Welsh Language Music Day is celebrated on a Friday in February - the 7th according to the Welsh Government website - Dydd Miwsig Cymru

and the 14th according to another website which has some interesting information on the history of why the day was created Welsh Language Music Day - February 14, 2025

This website agrees with the 7th - The best of Welsh Language Music - and mentions the gigs and events that you can enjoy.

Some of those are starting to appear in the Welsh Gigs - DATES AND LOCATIONS thread, so keep an eye out for those, and feel free to post here as well.

It’s definitely the 7th! It’s the Government who organises DMC, so they’re the people to trust on this one.

On the subject of appreciating and supporting Welsh music, is it okay to promote a platform / app here? I can delete this if it isn’t allowed.
Bandcamp is really good. Most of the money you pay for music goes straight to the artists - way more than they ever get if you stream their albums on Spotify. You’ll mostly not find the Big Names on there (no Bwncath or Dafydd Iwan) but in the world of Welsh music most artists aren’t Big Names outside the Welsh language bubble, even when they are pretty popular within it. Ynys, Burum, and Al Lewis are all on Bandcamp.
For anyone who feels rich, a great feature of Bandcamp is that artists can set a price for their music, but also give an option for you to pay whatever you think it’s worth. Mostly albums are around £10 or more if you want. It’s that bit more intentional and specific than setting up and forgetting about a contribution to someone’s Patreon.
Making money at playing music is really hard right now, especially if you’re choosing to sing in a minority language, so supporting the artists over the industry is more important than ever.
