Cymryd y bara - what does it mean?

In Course 1, you, me, he, she, we and you (plural) all seem to be obsessed with taking the bread. Why? We are beginning to wonder if “cymryd y bara” is like the English sayings “to take the cake” or “to take the piss/mickey”. Or are we just reading too much into it?!

S’mae? No, as far as I am aware, there are no conotations here! These people just really like bread!

(unless Aran is just taking the bara out of us all …)
