Bug reports for the new app (Tom's PWA)

Huge and heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been helping troubleshoot the new app - we’re getting towards an increasingly robust set-up, including a staging version to try and minimise explosions.

If anyone would like to help test the staging version as well as the live version, drop me a line and I’ll put you in touch with Tom: aran @ hey . com

@aran Here is a Video of how the app is for me now.

That’s so helpful, diolch! I see you’ve got an ‘update’ option in there - does it still do the same after the update?

Yes, the video is actually from about 2 days ago and I did update it then, but the behaviour is still the same now.

Great (I mean, not great, but!) - diolch!

And sorry, what’s your device/OS/etc again? :folded_hands:

That was on an Android Tablet.

No worries. It’s working OK in “Driving mode” so far, so it’s not too much of an inconvenience.

Thanks, that’s useful - Tom’s working on what he hopes will be a fix

Tom thinks that should be solved now, but it might take a little while for it to come through for your experience, depending on how your device is cache-ing

There’s an issue with the Latvian course that sounds similar to what some other people have reported. Basically, it introduces maybe one word normally. Then the sound disappears but new vocabulary items can be seen on the screen only, at a faster rate than normal. Then at some point the sound comes back on. This is on an iPhone 13, iOS 26.3.1.

Fabulous, very helpful, thank you very much indeed! :folded_hands:

@hanna-salmi we think that a hard refresh and/or updating to the newest version should now have fixed that - so it would be good to hear if you’re still having the same experience?

Yes - it seems to be working now! Many thanks for the quick fix!

However, I found a new bug. At some point the Latvian text disappeared (not a big problem, since I focus on the audio anyway) AND at more or less the same time the pause button disappeared. So it just wouldn’t stop… I eventually went into settings to see if I had accidentally done something there. I hadn’t, but going into settings stopped the audio automatically, and when I restarted it, the text was also back. I think it’s done this once before.

Great news on the fix, and thank you for the early catch on the new misbehaviour! :folded_hands::grin:

Over the past few days and continuing this morning I have had a recurring issue which manifests itself by producing a lack of synchronisation when having completed one round and starting the next.

I’m using driving mode while dog walking and the phone is in my pocket with the screen lock on. My phone is a Samsung S25FE running Android 16 and Samsung OneUI 8.0 and I am using Chrome for the app, which I have added to the home screen, to learn Icelandic.

For example I worked through the round that begins by introducing ‘eftir’ and then noticed that ‘eftir’ was introduced again and the same phrases followed it. When I unlocked the screen to look at the app a completely different set of content was displayed. This has happened on at least three occasions this morning with other rounds (all yellow belt). On each occasion the audio does not match the screen content.

When I notice what has happened I can resolve it by changing to standard mode, which will restart the new round, and then changing back to driving mode again to carry on.

Edit: Two screen recordings added, one with the error described above and the other with English only, no Icelandic speech or text.

Greek seems to be behaving beautifully now in Drive - haven’t tried anything else - but I have come across a couple of content issues.

  1. The sentence “I want you to say it again a little more slowly,” is introduced shortly before all the new items needed to say it (“you to say” etc.)
  2. Greek distinguishes between gwybod and nabod, but SSi Greek doesn’t appear to do so. I’ve just had ξέρω κανέναν for ‘I know someone’, which AFAIK is like saying dw i’n gwybod rhywun or je sais quelqu’un.

Very helpful, gentlemen, thank you very much indeed :folded_hands:

I assume listening mode is of lower priority but 2 bugs/incomplete features.

Not sure if UX issue or colourblind issue (yay) but I can’t tell if it’s in shuffle or ordered by the buttons/toggle.
Even when shuffled (doesn’t start with ‘I want’) it reverts to ordered at a certain point. Maybe after first belt? Are belts done in order even if shuffled?

Also for listening mode, the one time I used 1x, it sped up to 2x by the end of my 20/30m session (not sure when it did this, I was hands free).

Listening mode also struggles with focus (if the screen turns off - PC and android - , or goes to a different app - android only - it stops playing audio, but still seems to be continuing without audio)

Armenian btw, but don’t know if this makes a difference

Thank you, super helpful - listening is a bit less vital, but we still want it to behave  :folded_hands:
