The Web app is working fine again but I signed out of the phone app to see if that would help after seeing Debora’s msg but can now not sign back into phone app.

Origionally didn’t recognise my password, so I tried to re-set which it said I did successfully, but after entering the new details the screen has gone black and I cant do anything else

Can you get into anything? Or is the phone completely frozen with a black screen?

And when you log back into the app, it’s still just black? That doesn’t refresh it?

It was just black but I’ve just tried again and it seems to be working now.

Interesting one for @rich - I saw Aran post on Facebook about a taster course of Irish through the medium of Welsh, so thought I’d have a look at it, aaand…
1 I was already logged into the Android app (Android 14), so tried to “learn another language”, but it offered me only “I speak English” or “Chinese”.
2 I followed Aran’s link, which took me to a “download or launch the Web app” page. Since I already have the app, I tried the Web app.
3 The Web app let me change my interface language to Welsh, and log in, and choose the Irish demo - but it may have picked up my existing progress on the English-medium Irish demo, because the first audio prompt was immediately in English.
4 I closed the Web app window, and logged out of the Android app, intending to log back in, but it wouldn’t let me (invalid user or password). I tried “I’ve forgotten my password” & it said my email didn’t exist.
5 I reopened the Web app (I’d closed the window without logging out) and found I was still logged in; logged out of there, was then able to log back in on Android, and then found the Irish through the medium of Welsh course, with the correct Welsh medium audio.
I’m not sure exactly what combination of mis-steps managed to break things, but I hope that’s useful or reproducible or fixable or something.

I’m pretty sure that when “if” is introduced (os, má) Aran’s next prompt is “os ti” (if you) - but the translation is “má leat” (os gyda ti, if with you). That makes sense as an answer, as only ‘leat’ has been introduced so far, but I went back to check I hadn’t misheard, and haven’t yet had the same prompt again, so I’m not cant y cant am y peth.

No mis-steps on your behalf - we had ‘a blip’ on the server last night which caused an access problem to the course files and strange knock on effects in course playing. This caused a lot of running around for a spell!
Under normal circumstances (as had already happened the night before in fact) the course will simply appear in the language choice the next time you go back to the language options.
I believe this is the explanation behind the situation.Sorry for the disruption.

Hi, so am using the new app and learning south wales dialect. I have been learning welsh for just over two years, did the old mp3 course then was learning automagic on the web page, now moved to the app. I have a question/remark/feedback, depending on factors.
I have seemed to jump through the belts quite fast. I was on blue belt black stripe, and moved onto purple, then onto purple black stripe, then brown and now brown black stripe. I am finding the content fairly straightforward, so don’t mind the progress. But my question is, can the app hear you speak and judge how good you are talking, is that why my progress has been lively? Feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

@martin-smith it sounds like you’re moving along quickly! Da iawn ti! We’re still in the process of getting all of the old Level 3 content for Welsh South into the new app. There have been some technical issues delaying it, but there will be more content for you before too long.
At the moment, the app can’t hear you speaking at all, but that is an option that we would like to introduce in the future. It could be an additional way of assessing your progress, so that the app could adjust itself and give you more practice of things you’re unsure of and less practice of the things you’re confident about. But that’s still in the future on our wish list

Thanks, I did forget to mention that I am doing 20-30 mins plus per day, I find it easy to do this much when cooking etc.

Can the new app use my progress in the email courses, where I’ve checked off each challenge as I completed it, to place me on the appropriate belt?
I haven’t tested it out yet, mostly because I like using the challenge mp3 files and might as well stick with what’s worked right to the end.
But when you add more difficult content now it will be to the app and presumably not as separate mp3s, but part of the continuous learning stream. So, after I’ve finished level 3, will I have to start at the beginning of the app and do a whole lot of skipping / leave it running in a corner somewhere for several hours, to get to post-level 3 content?
That seemed to be what I’d have to do to find my place with AutoMagic when I tried it.

@verity-davey No, the app doesn’t know anything about the old audio files. They are completely separate. It can only pick up progress that you’ve made in the AutoMagic Web App prototype.
At the moment, the only way would be to use the ‘Skip’ to jump forward, but we plan to add a way for people starting with more knowledge to be able to move quickly to a more suitable start point. That’s not something that’s around the corner though

Oh well. I just wondered because “the database nags you” in the email course if you don’t check off the challenges, and there’s a vocab list for each challenge, so there’s definitely some level of tech knowing what words I’ve learned.

The ‘ticking off Challenges’ was partly a motivational thing, so that you get a sense of achievement, but also used to give us an idea of how someone was progressing if they emailed to say they were having difficulties. We could see if there were big gaps in their learning, or if they were learning steadily and give them some advice. It’s not available as a sign of progress to the new app.
