Any SSIW meetup at the National Eisteddfod 2016?

Hi Sandra, I’ll be getting the coach back to Cardiff at 6pm so will be around until then. I’m also coming on Friday, but will have the family in tow (or they me!) so will be a little more restricted.

Diolch @ali for the warning. I’ll have to come early /look into other ways of getting into Cardiff.

There is an article about the Eisteddfod by, of all people, Eddie Butler, which surprised me, because I could understand how he felt. I tried to save a link, but it didn’t work! I’ll try again now!

Well, that worked and I notice various other info for newbie Eisteddfod goers!! Hope someone finds it diddorol or even useful!!

@aran, just wondering, have you ever, when in Y Babell Dysgwr, had someone came and say, ever so slowly, “Rydw’i yn dysgu Cymraeg er sorry, I’ve only been learning for two years, can you tell me about what to see?”
If this happens, are you tempted to tell them all about SSiW and explain that, this way, they’ll be able to ask for directions in Welsh next year and possibly understand the answers? :grinning:

Nope, afraid not

For any who do not know the truth…

It is sad, but makes the fake rocks used now for the Gorsedd circle more bearable!

Well, it’s been said that most of the “centuries-old” traditions included in British state ceremonials were invented by the Victorians anyway, so Iolo can claim to have been ahead of the game!

I’ve just done another Welsh first, ordering a ticket over the phone for an evening concert! This made me realise that I should learn how to say letters in Welsh, for things like giving my post code.
I’m still hoping to go on a couple of days and will try and make the Wednesday meet-up. I like the SSiW badge idea and will try wear one too.

would it be possible for someone to print out a spare or two

If you, or anyone else coming on Wednesday, let me know your name and forum name , I’ll prepare a (red) name badge which can be collected by collaring me on the Maes. I expect to arrive sometine after 11 am (traffic permitting). I think we met each other at an Aber party but, if you can’t recall me, there’s a current photo further up this thread.

Deadline for sending me your name/forum name is Tuesday late afternoon

Thank you Sir, we did meet briefly and I won’t have any problem remembering you. Faces I can remember, names … no chance.

Any one who will be there for the Procession and Honouring of new members of the Gorsedd on (I think) Friday morning, look out for Liz Saville Roberts MP (Dwyfor Meirionnydd). She has been a really good friend to yr hen iaith and S4C on the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, and really helpful over the Petition! She actually was born in England and learned Cymraeg herself, I think at Uni in Aber!! She will be honoured with a blue robe!! I don’t think it is usual to give huge cheers, but if there are people showing support, it would be nice to give her some!

Dim prob, Geraint. I liked the “Sir” The last person to call me that was a student and then they were being ironic.

Always Learning -
Heddiw, S4C, listening to story of Margaret Haig Thomas, I heard that women didn’t get to the House of Lords until 1958! I was shocked. I must surely have misheard? But I checked and it was true. It hadn’t impinged on me at the time. I knew vaguely about titles going to second cousins three times removed in Australia, while estates and wealth, unless under an Entail, went to a daughter with no brothers, but it didn’t click that women couldn’t sit on those red benches. To be honest, I saw the whole thing as an anachronism best got rid of (and still do), but the injustice only hit me today!
No, I never stop learning!
I certainly didn’t expect to learn that while watching coverage of the Eisteddfod!

Helo pawb o Caerdydd.

Just briefly. I see you havin questions about tickets. Well, i did not read everything written here lately, to be honst so maybe someone alreadz posted an answer, but I’ve ordered them all online. For Menter, they obviously are just creating the list of people who will go with them. I ordered the tickets through the phone and payed them telling them my card data.

For the Eisteddfod I just asked if I can get the tickets at the gate paying them online and they assured me i will get them there. Unfortunately they were not on discount anymore but regular price of 20 GBP.

This much I know … Might be a bit late now even for that, i do not know.

If anyone is collecting tickets already paid for, make sure you go to the Prif Fynedfa, the main entrance, to collect them. There is mynedfa 2, and the buses shouldn’t take you there and volunteers have to send you to the main gate to collect them. There was almost 'Death by Choir" today when 30 people were delivered to the wrong door.

I am hoping to be there on Wednesday. Gobeithio.

Just planning how long I need to get to Y Fenni from Lancashire (and back). Probably “all day” to be realistic …
