Any SSIW meetup at the National Eisteddfod 2016?

I’ll only be there on the Friday, so I’ll miss the meet-up that looks like being arranged on Wednesday, but maybe I’ll bump into some of you around Maes D. I’ll be fresh from Bootcamp, so either keen to use my new-found chatting abilities or totally brain-fried and demoralised. Either way, it’d be nice to sit down for a cuppa!

I’ll be there on the Friday, Isata - would be great to have a chance for a chat. I’m kicking off the day listening to my friend give a talk on the Sublime in eighteenth-century music (complete with examples played on the viola). Brave man!

As a fellow European living in the UK for many many years, prepare for the weather to be terrible. It always is except for a lucky 2 weeks.

Hmmm … I have a sense of freezing since here is 29+ °C. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

If it makes you feel better, tatjana, the temperature here is 290 kelvin

That sounds like a tough gig to pull off before your audience has warmed up, but I’m sure it’ll go very well. Good luck to him and respect!
I’m going with my mum and we haven’t talked plans yet, but when I know, I could email or message you to let you know what time I’ll be hanging around Maes D maybe?

Sublime in eighteenth-century music

That’s right up me street @sarapeacock - sorry I’ll miss it. :disappointed:
Do you think there might be a podcast or something that I could listen to?
Otherwise does your friend have an internet presence where he publishes on this topic?

Good idea - I’ll email you.

Click on the ‘publications’ tab here - there are a number of articles there that you can access online, I think:
http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/people/view/142271-chapin-keith

Can anyone help me with this, please?

If I take the transport by Menter Caerdydd buying bus tuckets online, will it be enough printing them out or I still have to tet them from somewhere. If they send them there’s no use for me to buy anything online.

The same question goes for Eisteddfod tickets

Well, I could e-mail or call though, but asking here is kind of more handy for me. If no one answers then I’ll go for this “last” option.

Diolch.

Diolch yn fawr iawin, iawn, Sara. What an interesting and highly travelled and highly qualified chap! He has made several of his publications accessible as pdf files and i have downloaded

A Harmony or Concord of Several and Diverse Voices«: Autonomy in 17th-Century German Music Theory and Practice

in full acceptance that it will be a tad too specialised for me.

Is there any special SSIW advice for getting the most out of the Eisteddfod as a learner? I’m trying to decide which days to go, there seem to be so many interesting things, I’m trying to maximise my enjoyment based on going on 2 separate days (driving as I live locally). I like harp playing, choirs, contempory music and opputunities to improve my Welsh of course.

Welsh weather is unpredictable, you could have a swelteringly hot humid day, that turns into heavy rain. So bring both light clothing and sun goo, and a coat, warm jumper and wellies; I know from many British ‘summer’ festivals. Temps from 10-25 degrees

You can use the Menter Caerdydd service, but it’s only one bus a day. you may find greater flexibility with regular services? http://www.trawscymru.info/

Nope, not really. Just talk to as many different people as you can, and don’t use any English…

This is my 3rd Eisteddfod. I like to go to the Cymanfa Ganu on the first Sun night, stay locally, then spend the Mon there for the Crowning of the Bard, and home on Tues.

I’m going to take an umbrella/sunshade and decorate it with SSiW and any of you, please accost me if you see me !

I’m wearing a Here to Help jacket Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Friday mornings and will be in Maes D Thursday afternoon and the second Saturday morning. And @tatjana and I will be in Maes D on the Wednesday afternoon, 3pm.

Looking forward to meeting lots of you throughout the week.

We’ve just had confirmation that my wife is off work Wednesday so we will (hopefully) be there all day on the 3rd. I’ll be wearing my long beard so you can recognise me, please say hello.

It might be an idea for someone who is there earlier in the week to find a good spot (with seating away from the music stage so we can chat without needing to shout) and then post on here directions where to go before Wednesday comes around. Also a specific time. I would rather it be closer to 4pm than 6pm but a little inside info wouldn’t go amiss.

Two years ago we all met up then disappeared for food and fetched it back to the table, it kind of worked.

Yes, this usually works (no matter what festival and where … ).

Well, as newbie I’m a bit like going with the flow at the moment.

I was hoping for that.

HELO!

(on a sirious note) Of course I’ll say helo (if I wouldn’t be too startled upon everything being little girl in “the big city” for the first time ever).
