Driving, I would say about 3 hours. I used to do Manchester to Aberystwyth regularly, which is three hours exactly/ Probably less, as you can stay do, M6, M5, M50, then you’re almost there, (no proper windy Welsh roads)
I’d say do one for me, @hewrop, but do I really need one? Not even having a badge, just wearing SSiW T-shirt, people were just bumping on me what was actually great fun. I’ve met 5 people from the forum + Sion T. Jobbins who literally ran to meet me. If someone doesn’t know, Sion T. Jobbins is the writer of books like The Welsh National Anthem, The Red Dragon and more. I was also in the BBC Radio Cymru pavilion but to my fortune no one payed attention to me so I left in one piece and unharmed after about 10-ish minutes. haha.
To my saddness, I’ve missed the crowning as I’ve got lost and just couldn’t find Maes D anymore for 2 hours. I was also distracted by excellent singing by Sorela3 acapella trio, so I have a little excuse for missing the croowning.
All in all I was seen and wearing the shirt I also had the chance of telling people about SSiW, where I come from and what way of learning SSi is. I’m actually really happy I can be kind of live welsh speaking walking commercial pano. If I will hear later on that it provided results in gaining new learners, I’ll be even happier.
Sounds as though you’re having a great time without any need for badges, @tatjana.
Wela i ti Dydd Mercher.
Wela i ni bawb.
I was also distracted by excellent singing by Sorela3 acapella trio
Oh, I love them! Lucky you!
Hi @hewrop
Sorry…bit late but would you mind making a badge for me please?
Vaughan / vgh50
Thank you!
See you tomorrow!
Croeso 'n ol! I looked for you on TV, but the cameras tend not to do slow pans of folk, and it would be pure luck if one caught you! Also, I was watching the Crowning! Which reminds me, @aran sent me a reply on the Forum mentioning neurological exercise which was worded very like a quote from one of the entrants for the Crown! When you see him on Wednesday, ask if he or Catrin entered poems for the Crown!!!
I am hoping that the large group you will all be on Wednesday will be so noticeable that the TV folk decide to interview you all!! Glad you are having a good time so far, keep it up!
When/where is the meet-up on Friday folks. I’ll be there with the Cymdeithas Cymraeg Amwythig but if I can drop in on yu I will
Are you, and any others, going to the Chairing? If so, I envy you, even if I do get to see it all on TV, I’d adore to be there!
Dim prob, Vaughan - see my PM
Oh dear! I wonder whether anyone has got a map of the Maes? I haven’t been able to find one on line. I am notorious for getting lost, and don’t want to waste any of tomorrow, so a bit of preparation wouldn’t go amiss!
Here’s the map of the maes to download:
Site Map Eisteddfod 2016.pdf (786.4 KB)
There is a Pocket Programme you can download from the Eisteddfod website too so you can plan what you want to see beforehand. I always miss half the things I want to see unless I’m very organised with my planning.
I was going to upload the programme here but it’s too big.
Safe journey to all those of you who are driving. I have decided that the M6 to the South of Manchester is ofnadwy and so I would be inclined to use M56 / M53 / A55 / A483 (Wrecsam) / A5 (Amwythig / Shrewsbury) A49 (Hereford / Henffordd) and A465 to Y Fenni. Slower but less horrid.
But the above is probably academic as there is a good (and direct) train service from Manceinion to Y Fenni (on the way to Caerdydd) so I think I will use that. I enjoy driving, but not when it involves queues on the M6. And, for once (unlike the train to London) there is not a lot of cost difference.
Maps available at the front entrance from Gwybodaeth and from Yma I Helpu people. Maes D immediately on your left once you cross the bridge and are on the site proper. The Pavilion is that great big building just at 1 o’clock as you enter the site. Ice cream vans and coffee available everywhere. The food area is at the extreme right end of the site. Not sure where a quiet place is for 20 to 30 of us with food.
I’ve had to close the book on badges with @vgh50 and @rhiannon_in_sussex being the last because
- I have run out of safety pins and
- I need to practise some intelligent things to say in Welsh for tomorrow.
Wela i chi gyd bore 'fory.
I have got a map but to be honest, I am lousy map reader so I have circled around like a cat around hot milk and with all singing I have heard I forgot what is the time so the crowning just passed me by.
Brilliant pics @Isata.
@henddraig I doubt TV will sppt us as they are settled quite away from Maes D as much as I ould see and I have seen only one camera outside just at the entrance of the Eisteddfod. I was wavin and saying helo when entering and two ladies at the camera man just smiled at me probably thinking I am a bit nuts - haha!
I have given another SSiW card today at Saint Fagan what means just two left.
I have also breafly met @faithless78 today but my buus to St. Fagan just arrived and I went off. It was nice meeting him a bit unexpectedly (but obviously everything happens unexpectedly yng Nghymru anyway, happily thouggh}.
Sadly I will still miss some bits i would like to see while in Cardiff, but I fully spend my time visiting places and siarad Cymraeg while i am here. I visitd Cardiff Castle todayy aswell although I was a bit sad that things are a bit confusing without any real guidance. But I enjoyed to the bits anyway.
I already have my beloved caffee in Cardiff and my beloved eating place althought I know they are not the cheapest so if/when I come back one day I will know at least where to eat and drink really huge portion of coffee. Yup, coffee is important thing even in Wales.
I am just sorry it rains and rains and rains and just does not want to stop.
So those were {wet} adventures for today. See you all tomorrow.
Oh, and @sarapeacock at the Menter Iaith when you come to the bus they just have a list which they check to see who came. You do not need any bus ticket.
And, thank you @margaretnock. If there would not be you, I would stay at the Eisteddfod until the morning searching for my bus … Diolch yn fawr iawn i ti.
15.00hrs in Maes D. Only 1 more sleep!
Sori, details & 1 more sleep are for Wednesday
That’s for tomorrow, Bryan was asking for Friday.
My eisteddfod has started with a meal with @vgh50 and a brief chat with the one and only Nia Parry in the pub. The great thing about Welsh celebrities is that they don’t see themselves as celebrities, but Nia, maybe more than most, really doesn’t mind giving up a little of her time for a quick chat.
Looking forward to tomorrow.
Just checking that people are paying attention on here! Thanks for spotting that!
