Yw not mae

Hi

Could someone explain to me why in a sentence structured as follows the word/s ‘yw’n’ are used and not ‘mae’n’?

‘You can do it soon if it’s important’
Gewch chi wneud e yn fuan os yw’n pwysig

But not

Gewch chi wneud e yn fuan os mae’n pwysig

Os always goes with ydy/ yw rather than mae… I thinks it’s a ‘just the way it is’ thing - but there is a sense of matching the question aspect of ‘if’ in the verb that follows, so it also ‘feels right’ - or is that indoctrination?! :crazy_face:
