Banadl - Broom.
I know this was a couple weeks ago but I didn’t see it then. I’m curious about this because it looks rather like what I’ve always understood to be Eithin - Gorse - which we saw LOTS of in Scotland. What is the difference?
Hi from another John. The real one will pobably have a better answer, but in the meantime here is something that I found. Gorse/broom comparison is towards the end of the article.
Eithin (gorse) has prickles, (is prickles!), banadl (broom) doesn’t. From a walkers’ perspective, that’s the major difference. But they often grow together. Broom has long flat sets of leaves. The fact they are both green and have bright yellow flowers makes them similar from a distance, but close up they are quite different.
I just wish the gorse on Rhossili Down had been broom! I spent a lot of time getting pricked while trying to get it out of foolish Cavalier Tishi’s fur!

I spent 5 hours on Skomer Island yesterday
Macky sent a bunch of photos. Looks like it was a wonderful time!
