Now I see it! Somehow typing out the question made me see what I was missing.
It is the unsaid “ei” that does it. Twpsyn!

I used to work with a couple of people whose desks faced each other. One of them constantly asked questions of the other, then immediately answered her own questions. It was hilarious! But as she said, the action of putting her question into words, helped her to see the answer. It’s a good technique!
