Ah, it won’t let me upload a video. Basically, it just rifles through sentences and words, initially at several per second (you can see them flash up on the screen) and then long enough to hear part of the prompt.
Having an issue with the Armenian course.
Ssi Version cbab8c6 · 9 Apr 2026, 17:54
Chrome 145 on android 15
Started at White belt 5/7
Did maybe 20 minutes of regular behaviour. Intermittent pausing when the brain freezes and can’t t make a sound. Maybe 5/8 prompts paused this way.
Maybe completed 6/7 stages of white
Then when introducing “To Try” it skips through all introductory practice showing every prompt in the english box. Resumes normal function at the revision practice.
Any further introductions repeat the skip behaviour.
Now shows 7/7 in the belts progress for white.
Will try again tomorrow, with and without clearing cache. I’ll do my best to report back.
@aran Same with the Greek this morning - same Android setup as was working perfectly yesterday, except that I updated the PWA this morning. I uploaded a few seconds of recording to Dropbox - here’s a link:
Screen recording.
ETA - Updated (from cbab8c6) to version 5861917 but it doesn’t appear to be fixed - I got a sequence of English prompts with no translations, so stopped before it began racing ahead.
ETA - Now 2b9481a, still not playing ball.
I’m very curious on how the LLMs deal with Martian… errr, Hungarian ![]()
I have started using the Dutch course to help ironing out mistakes, but it seems that a bug has jumped onboard. Very early in the course (another bug: total time always remains on “0m” with me, but “words” has risen to 2) the English prompts stop. The “get ready to speak” flashes by in a fraction of a second, so I have to read onscreen what I’m meant to be saying. After that, both Dutch voices do their work again, but when the next English prompt should come, same situation repeats itself…
EDIT: after I pressed “Update” because “new version available”, ALL the voices have disappeared?
I have the same issue with the Icelandic course after updating to 53a0f97.
Just tried this morning on my netbook instead of my phone, and the Greek worked perfectly. I’ve got yet another version number, so it’s possible that it’s been fixed (I suspect the silence from the team on this thread may be because they’re too busy trying to sort it out), or it may well just be that it was an Android-only problem and they’re still working on it.
@SteakAndEggs @CalonGoch-Felen @martin-harte @mattcridland - can I just ask if you’re all on Android and if you’re still experiencing the same issues?
This is what worked this morning:
SSi version e0a5e23
Linux netbook (Lubuntu 24.04.4)
LibreWolf 148.0.2-3 (Firefox fork, running in browser rather than installed as PWA)
On Android here. Not sure if it’s working or not as I’m not long home from work. The Bulgarian course was working on “driving” mode this morning (the middle of the night in the UK), but whether the Norwegian course was working on normal mode, I don’t know.
I thought I’d found a workaround with “driving” mode; but it may just be that they’d fixed it and I hadn’t realised. ![]()
Edit: nope, it’s still not working for me and “Driving” mode is indeed a functional workaround. I guess I’ll use that mode for now. The app hasn’t announced a new version to update to for more than a day now.
SSi version e0a5e23 for Icelandic
Samsung S25FE running Android 16 and OneUI 8.0
Chrome v146.0.7680.177
Sound is now back but I’ve been having a few other issues…
When logging on to the app on a different device from my usual one it doesn’t recognise my progress and puts me back to the start of white belt. It’s not the end of the world but it is annoying.
I generally use Driving mode (otherwise known to me as dog-walking mode) and, being very much an aural learner, don’t look at the screen which is usually locked.
The next issue is that in this mode I have found that it will sometimes reach the end of a unit and stop. It will restart when I unlock the screen.
Finally also when using Driving mode I have sometimes found that I can have two different seeds running at the same time. I wouldn’t have noticed as the screen is usually locked but after ‘Icelandic’ was introduced in English there was no sound for the Icelandic until it was introduced as ‘in Icelandic’. That block completed and the audio then returned to the point of introducing ‘Icelandic’ in English, so I looked at the screen and found that the captions were different to the audio. I have the linked to a video screen capture showing this.
@aran
Reading back through this topic, responses to the original request for language suggestions have been drowned by reports of bugs encountered during the development of the web browser app. I’m wondering if it’s time to split it into two for the sake of clarity.
That is a brilliant screen recording, thank you so much - I’m presuming that’s the same issue as yours, Martin and Steak?
Yes, been a little busy, sorry for the quietness! Good point about splitting the thread, I’ll knock something up. Super, super helpful getting these inputs, though, and double so with videos, diolch o waelod calon ![]()
I’m not sure if it is the same issue, Aran. So far, the courses are working well for me on ‘Driving Mode’ (which was the mode in the screen recording); but normal mode is totally unusable (much worse than in the screen recording). I’ll see if I can find a way to share a video in the new ‘bug’ thread.
You wrote somewhere about an offline modus i.e. download of one hour of content and then learn offline. How can I get this mode, please ? I’ve installed the new app ( the one with many new languages) but I can’t find a download button.
Thanks .
Thank you so much for Hindi! I’ve been trying to learn on and off for the past few years (my wife is Indian) but have always struggled with the lack of resources. I’ve used SSiW a bit for welsh so I know the approach will work for me. Very excited to give it a try!
One thing - I’ve tried to resubscribe on the new app but clicking the button doesn’t seem to do anything. Am I doing something wrong?
I can’t see this in the PWA at the moment either! I’ve asked Tom what the latest is… for the time being, I think the options link (just above the settings wheel) for listening/turbo/driving etc is the closest we may have - driving triggers some downloading, I think, but without the control over the amount…
Hi James - it would be lovely to hear some results from the Hindi course! I really hope it goes well for you. When you say ‘resubscribe’ - are you on saysomethingin.app? If so, that doesn’t have a subscription option at the moment ![]()
I’ve been doing the Ukrainian course since yesterday. I hadn’t realised you had produced the new app. It’s brilliant, I’ve been waiting hopefully for SSiUa for years and now it’s here.
Perfect mixture of challenging and reassuringly familiar. I’m up to orange, and even having completed the Duolingo Ukrainian course it’s lots of new material and actually producing language works so much better for me.
I’m genuinely really happy ![]()
Oh, I’m so delighted to hear that - we’re still a little nervous about the new courses, but we’ve put a huge amount of work into getting the production structures right - so we’re sort of expecting a few hiccups, but massively, inordinately, childishly delighted to hear when they’re already being helpful!

Also a +1 for an offline mode, perhaps an option to download belt by belt (maybe more granular for black belt seeing as it’s quite big for Welsh)!
Think I’ve got all the Welsh mp3s downloaded on my phone to use when flying at this point ![]()
Also can’t wait to use the new app once Welsh is added, from briefly looking it looks great. Irish will be my #2, but a bit nervous to venture into that one at the same time as Welsh ![]()
I’m on Irish at the moment, Reilly - it’s fascinating how the structures are so similar, but the vocabulary so different (bar the odd word or two that obviously go way, way back down the family tree).
So far it’s not interfering with my Welsh (but I’ve had a few years head start on you, so I can understand your not wanting to mix the two…)
