We’ll give it our best shot (been having a few hiccups with Serbian, but it’s running at the moment) - but might be great to have some Hungarians test drive the Popty for editing! ![]()
My niece teaches in the Hutt Valley. I’ll ask if she can help…
Gary, yr hen goes, how are you sir? ![]()
Serbian is live (with all the usual caveats!) and Hungarian is starting its build now ![]()
Dal i fynd, mae’n rhyfeddol i mi!
Best wishes to all “Teulu Jones”!
Russian would be really useful.
My niece says she will ask around - she knows plenty of people who speak Māori, but will try to find a mother-tongue, native speaker. She also says that there are a large number of dialects, so it sounds like there are some choices to be made…
Dal i fynd ydi’r llwyddiant fwyaf!

@megan-jones-3 I haven’t been feeling very positive about doing Russian, although I do believe in seeing languages differently from political behaviour. But now that we’ve had Ukrainian up there for a while, I suppose it’s time to put Russian on the list ![]()
Diolch Gary! All input at this stage would be fabulous - I think what we need to be doing is partnering in some way, something like that…
Thank you! I understand the hesitation on adding Russian. My own language learning journey with it has been slowed a bit at times by similar feelings, however I’m still motivated to learn it and I believe the SSi method would personally help me a lot like it has with Welsh. I really appreciate what you’re doing here.
Worth noting also that bc of past demographic & linguistic changes & policies, there’s a significant chunk of the Ukrainian population who are actually mamiaith Russian speakers rather than Ukrainian (including some in the UK as refugees, including one in one of my classes - and also including Volodymyr Zelensky!).
I can well understand how you feel, Megan - I’ve always loved Russian literature in particular, and I’ve long wanted (or at least played with the idea!) to be able to read it in the original. And I’m interested in Russian history and folklore, but, yeah.
Fair point, Richard, absolutely true, and of course part of the underlying reasons it never really works to conflate languages with political systems.
Hungarian audio is almost done, so I’ll start a Russian build before lunch ![]()
So massively appreciate you doing this. My Serb friend is very happy.
One other request if possible, which stems back to what I’d always hoped would be possible over the years, and that is Afrikaans. We desperately need to learn this language and have done for years. You guys are so busy I can’t really ask again, but you did put this thread up…
Delighted to hear that! ![]()
Hungarian is live (with normal caveats) and Russian is building audio (final stage) so I’ll put Afrikaans next on the to do list ![]()
Russian is live, but it may have some missing audio - bit hard to tell at the moment, I’ll doublecheck with Tom later on - it’s probably okay to get going with, but if you run into any weirdness do let me know!
Firing up Afrikaans now ![]()
Hindi/Urdu please.
It’s a big language, but it’s also a really beautiful one.
Hindi is already in there ![]()
Now you are in the ‘legend’ status zone. ![]()

Ah, I missed the online app link - I’ve found it now, hurrah!
Can I second or third the TeReo (Maori) request? And then all I have to do is finally move to New Zealand, home of my heart.
Hi Aran, they’re not on the list but I’ll ask anyway: Breton (thro’ medium of French maybe?), Basque (via French/Spanish/English), and a full Cornish course.
Diolch,
