What does 'ben-set' mean?

Hi there I think it’s an idiom I don’t understand,

Here it is in context
Dwi’n ymddiheuro fy mod wedi gadael fy nghais yn ben-set.

Any help much appreciated
Diolch

It simply meant ‘last minute’ or ‘down to the wire’.

If you say ‘mae’n ben set arna’i’ you’re saying that you’ve left something till the last minute or that you don’t have much time left to do something.

For example, if you say ‘mae’n ben set arnom ni i achub yr hen adeilad’ you’re basically saying that you’re ‘down to the wire’ with regards to saving the old building.

I hope that this makes sense.
