Hi all,
I have now completed SSiW, via the new app, as well as Duolingo Welsh. I’ve been working my way through the Sylfaen materials to close any gaps, as well as learn some of the rules.
I’m a bit lost as to what to do next. Should I be trying to read more of the Amdani series of books, taking in more welsh media? Should I carry on using infinite play for a while? Should I go back and do the challenges?
I would have carried on using the app forever as I found it so useful!
I think it’s a good idea going through the challenges, i was doing the course before app came out so when I finished I was a bit lost so started do the old course, theres 3 levels also levels 1&2 have extra vocabulary lessons, I’m almost finished level 2’s vocabulary lesson the will be starting level 3 then my plan after that is to re-start the newer course again,
There’s also the advanced content that you can work through too
Yes, it’s a good idea to do the challenges, the old course and the advanced listening material, but also do start reading, listening to Radio Cymru, following Welsh podcasts, watching S4C and - most importantly - talking at every opportunity, because actually using your Welsh ‘in the wild’ is absolutely the best way forward and provides so much more learning opportunity than any course can give you. Have you considered doing any of the WJEC exams? That would concentrate your mind on the written form of the language. The spoken parts would be a doddle for you. You are very unlikely to need any tuition if you just get hold of old papers and work your way through those. I’m probably a bit out of date as to the practicalities but it certainly used to be that Welsh tutors were discouraged from helping in class because so few of the students were planning on taking the exams but generally there were exam preparation days a few weeks beforehand for those interested. The Mynediad exam took place twice a year, the others only once.

I was considering the Sylfaen exam for next year actually. I’ve taken some of the Sylfaen level books out from the library. Thanks for you comment!
