Hello everyone,
I attended a high school where Welsh was the medium of teaching from the ages of 11-16 where I quickly achieved “fluency” at least in the context of school. Having since left school, and also Wales, I’ve been out of practice for about 8 years now and I’d love to get back into it, expand my vocabulary and learn some proper grammar so I can express myself more clearly. To that end, I was wondering whether anyone here has any advice for someone semi-fluent to get back into the language or whether subscribing to the lessons here might help?
Thanks,
Nathan
Hi Nathan
The first 15 challenges at level 1 are free, so I’d suggest doing those and then decide whether to subscribe or not when the paywall kicks in. You’ll find the SSiW method very different to the way you were taught in school, so those 15 challenges will get you used to it, but I must warn you that we don’t concentrate on grammar in SSiW - or reading or writing either really, just speaking with confidence. Saying that, we are happy to answer grammar queries etc here on the forum, but we do try and encourage learners not to get bogged down in it - the whys and wherefores can come later! - so there is no formal teaching of grammar.
Another thing you could do would be to join our Welsh Speaking Practise group on Slack - that’s open for anyone whether they’re with SSiW or not, it’s free, and there are opportunities to have one-to-one chats or join group hangouts with people of all levela all over the world. To join, just send an email to admin@saysomethingin.com and they’ll send you an invite.
Whatever you decide, welcome back to Welsh!
