Welsh imperfect

In the Automagic exercise, the construction " o’n n’i " is used for a continuous action in the past. Years ago, when I tried learning Welsh, I learned "roedd 'i " for the same purpose. Are these interchangeable, or is there a north/south differerence, is one more formal than the other, or am I misunderstanding, and they actually mean different things?
Diolch yn fawr

Edit I now think it was roeddwn i, rather than roedd i

Someone please correct me if I wrong but, I’m pretty sure its an abbreviation of the same thing.
Roeddwn i becomes Ro’n i
And particularly in speech Ro’n i can become O’n i
