Welsh Duolingo (I'm struggling)

Helo,
Bore da,

Sut Wyt ti?

I’ve started using Duolingo Welsh beginner course, I’m only 3 lessons in and now it’s asking me to write fluently in Welsh.

I don’t understand the grammar?
I don’t understand the spelling?
I don’t understand the pronunciation?

Diolch, rhag,
Francesca

@francesca-6 this is one of the problems with Duolingo. It expects you to start reading and writing straight away. I believe there are Notes associated with the course, but I think you need to look on Facebook to find them. There’s a group called Duolingo Welsh Learners, and they have some files uploaded - Redirecting...

Are you using the latest SaySomethingin app? That displays the Welsh text with the male model response, so you might find that helpful, but if you want to develop your Welsh speaking skills, you’re better off with SaySomethingin for a while, then using Duolingo to learn some extra vocab if you want to.

Usually it’ll show you the spelling if you click/touch individual words in the task, so as a bare minimum you just need to figure out word order to get through. Duo doesn’t exactly teach, but it gets you engaged with the language long enough that when you actually start to learn grammar it’s easy, because you’ve already seen it applied a million times. (Except if you prefer to learn all the grammar first, in which case Duo is just annoying.)
There’s very good intro on pronunciation here:

Here’s a link to the most recent Duolingo grammar notes. They were created by a group of volunteers not Duolingo. They are a little out of date now in that the numbering of course modules changed and new ones were added but there’s still pretty good alignment. I found them invaluable. Be careful you don’t get too hung up on the differences between Duolingo Welsh and SSIW Welsh though.
