Welsh Duolingo hits three million users

The power of the internet means that we will have people who have only done a few hours of Duolingo while living thousands of miles away from Wales - with more knowledge of Welsh - than people who have lived in Cymru for 40 years (I know from personal experience!).
I live deep inside North East Wales and occasionally have to tell people what ‘croeso’ or ‘bryn’ means to people who have been here since the 1970s or 1980s haha

My streak on Duolingo is 768 days. I started on there to refresh my Scottish Gaelic and soon decided to add Welsh and do approximately an hour every day. Duolingo try to encourage competition with leagues and promotion/relegation but I feel that this is a great flaw in an otherwise excellent tool. Working at one’s own pace and actually learning is preferable to racing along to score pointless point scores.
