An afternoon of superlatives:
Cymanfa ganu celebrating the 150th anniversary of Tabernacl Treforys. Known as the ‘cathedral of chapels’, Tabernacle Morriston was voted Wales’ favourite church or chapel in the ‘Sacred Wales – Cymru Sanctaidd’ competition held in 2017.
Conductor: Parch. Rob Nicholls, minister of Eglwys Gymraeg Canol Llundain / The Welsh Church of Central London. Rob has conducted cymanfas (cymanfaoedd) around the world and founded National Eisteddfod-winning Côr Meibion Taf.
Organist: Internationally renowned organist Huw Tregelles Williams at the huge comprehensively restored organ.
I suspect we might be singing Blaenwern. Composer and conductor William Penfro Rowlands composed the tune during the 1904/5 Welsh revival, while precentor at Tabernacle.
No tickets required - the chapel can accommodate a congregation of almost 1500.
We are asked to be seated by 2 pm because recording for Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol S4C begins at 2:30.
