Welsh body parts specificity?

Shwmae pawb,

Weird thread title right? Anyway, I just got the pocket modern Welsh dictionary and have been making flash cards.

Jaw/chin both gên? Hip/thigh both clun? Are there really not different words for these? Is there a good resource explaining these kinds of differences?

Diolch!

Yup, same words for those pairs - I’ve no idea why!
I’m not sure of a specific resource other than more dictionaries. There are two online that I’d recommend - https://geiriaduracademi.org/ which is an extensive English to Welsh dictionary, and http://www.termiaduraddysg.org/browse-a-z/?lang=en which gives you the standard terms used in education - from that link you can choose “Chemistry and Biology” for specific terms in those fields.

Swansea University have developed an excellent app called ‘gofalu trwy’r cymraeg.’ You can download it for free. Its a great tool for any healthcare worker and also for anyone wishing to discover healthcare, ‘body part’ terminology.
