Using the app very happily and fairly well on with it now but suddenly amdani is used with no introduction at all and then not used again - help please
Itâs one of the âconjugated prepositionsâ that happen in Celtic languages (and also, oddly, Semitic). Words like âatâ got fused with a following pronoun (at+me, at+thee, at+him, at+her, etc.) but, just as with verbs, some of them are a bit irregular.
Am - meaning, amongst other things, âaboutâ - has the slightly surprising combining form amdan- - so âabout herâ is amdani (or amdani hi, but you donât really need the hi); and âabout himâ is amdano.
I donât know what your context was, but Welsh usually uses âherâ (rather than âhimâ) in places where English would say âitâ, so, for example, âI was thinking about itâ might be Oân iân meddwl amdani.
If you listen to Radio Cymru youâll sometimes hear people say amdan on its own, instead of am - which is âwrongâ / âbadâ Welsh, but itâs definitely something people do.
I have been using automagic since mid September, I downloaded and tried the app. I am thoroughly enjoying my learning and am very impressed with the course.
I have noticed occasionally that something new will spring up and panic me, I like things introduced calmly and quietly, no surprise birthday parties for me!
I decided that likely all would become clear. Invariably it sorts itself out, it seems like a glitch. More recently a word has been introduced like itâs something new, when I have been using it for ages, this doesnât cause panic.
As there have been several incarnations of the course perhaps there are little glitches that occur along the way.
I am just so pleased that my brain keeps absorbing new stuff.
PS Amdani was one that freaked me out.
