I sang an offertory at my church on Sunday - a latin american hymn “Con qué Pagaremos?” - in Spanish. When working on the song with my voice teacher, who grew up in Arizona not far from Mexico, he commented that I was developing a very good accent. Then after I sang it on Sunday, a native Mexican speaker came up to me, and shook my hand firmly and said “bien hecho!” (I know him pretty well - he meant it). He then wished me a happy birthday in Spanish to which I had to go “que?” - but that’s beside the point
I say this as a thank you to Gaby and Rosa - and of course to Aran and the SSi approach. I only started learning Spanish a few months ago. I’m not normally given to what sounds like marketing spiel but I was really surprised as how naturally it came. And I’d learned enough Spanish to - with a little help from a dictionary - understand what I was singing and sing it convincingly. Cheers again to SSi!
