This may be a dumb question

Hi. This may be a dumb question, but is there a difference between “dweud” and “deud?” Are they the same word but spelled differently? Is one more formal and one slang? Does one spelling mean “tell” and the other, “say?” Thanks for clearing this up for me!

There are no dumb questions
Both mean “say”, and while dweud is the most widely accepted form in writing, the spelling deud reflects how it is usually pronounced in the North.
(In the South you’ll also come across the variant gweud)
“To tell” is dweud wrth, literally “to say to (someone)”
