Every now and again, I come across a construction which isn’t fully explained in the lessons. This morning I started level 2 lesson 1 I came across the construction ‘ai eich plant chi’, and am unsure what ‘ai’ actually means and when to use it. Can anyone help?
The ai here indicates a question that doesn’t start with a verb, and doesn’t in itself mean anything.

Well of course all words have meaning - what you meant, Siaron (I am quite sure) is that it doesn’t translate into any word.

Not that much, no - though it wouldn’t raise eyebrows if you did use it, just sounds perhaps slightly formal/careful.
