I’ve been reading through the forums and saw that there was discussion last year of having a SSI Korean course in the beta phase! Looking at the app now, it doesn’t appear to be listed. Is there any plans to get Korean in the mix? I know a lot of people would jump at the chance to learn it, especially using the SSI model

I mentioned this a while ago because I was going to Korea (I’ve since been and can highly recommend Seoul, if anyone is interested) and remember reading that SSiK was in the pipeline. Do we have an update on it?

It does seem to have been pushed back, sadly. But we just got SSi Irish unexpectedly, so who knows? There are a lot of bugs being worked out in the languages currently available, and the team seems to be learning from them and improving the automation of new builds, so from one perspective the longer we wait for Korean the better it should be.

Yes, as @verity-davey said we’ve been focusing on fixes rather than new courses right now… Irish came out suddenly because we got some specific funding to make it, so we were able to prioritise it
Korean is still very much one of the next languages to come out, we just want to get at least some of our existing langauges really good first before we’re ready to use the process on a new language. Running on the existing langauges lets us iron out some issues with the process, so that we can be a bit more confident it’ll work well on a language we don’t speak. Also, we’ll hopefully have more resources to get someone to proofread the course at that point…
(fixing the existing courses has so far been a pretty slow and painful process, because I’m still struggling to get one of the new scripts to work as well as I would like it to…)

Thanks for the reply and update! Amazing news - I imagine you’re already aware of all funding possibilities for the program but thought I’d drop this here as I think the development of Korean using the SSI model would do wonders in helping the language reach a wider audience. As far as I can tell, Korean has been out for a few weeks.

I’m already loving the course Aran, you guys have done a great job! I was wondering if there were any course materials (like lesson vocab sheets) for the different Korean belts?

Not at the moment, I’m afraid, but we’re working on two plans - one is to add roman script to the screen while you’re learning, and the other is a tool for learning scripts, both of which I think will be generally helpful with vocab as well - further down the line, we’re looking at ways to offer customised revisiting of previous items, which should make it easier to scan quickly through what you’ve covered - it’s a bit tricky technically speaking, though, so I don’t want to make any promises there about timelines!
