I was at Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant today and I saw a sign “Mae’n ddrwg gennym …”. I have been taught “I am sorry” is “Mae’n ddrwg gen i”, so I was expecting “We are sorry” to be “Mae’n ddrwg gynnon ni”.
So two questions:
Am I right in thinking that “Mae’n ddrwg gennym…” is a more formal way of saying “Mae’n ddrwg gynnon ni”, with “Mae’n ddrwg gennyf” being the equivalent for “Mae’n ddrwg gen i”?
Is it acceptable to write (in informal communications) “Mae’n ddrwg gynnon ni”, or is this just wrong or likely to be seen as bad Welsh?
Many thanks.
