So who wants to be in the SSiW band?

You can download it on to your phone from Amazon MP3 for 89p. Don’t think it’s on YouTube. Thw whole album is good though.

Brilliant idea!

Sooo. when is the next Birthday Bash?

Not much booked for next year yet, but as much advance notice as poss helps.

Meanwhile, count me in for guitar, banjo or mandolin.

Not 100% sure yet Mark, but at present am thinking late spring or even in August to coincide with the Eisteddfod and make it an annual SsiW big bash rather than a birthday oriented party.

Excellent stuff!

I love this by Fflur Dafydd, it’s so much fun -

and this is also a good one, but uncertain about how easy it would be to cover - http://youtu.be/_JpzdM1Rhr4

I might be able to sort cheap rehearsal space at Menter Brycheiniog a Maesyfed’s new HQ in Theatr Powys, Llandrindod. We’ve got a PA, too. Equally inconvenient for everyone, and not too far from the English border for those coming from over there.
Let me know if you’re interested, folks!

Maybe this should really be about the SSiW bands, rather than just band…?

Anywhere there’s a critical mass, a band can start, and then the Eisteddfod/Party/Recording thing can be a kind of super-group (preferably 70s glam-rock style, but that may just be me)…?

Yes it is

I think we should have an audience members only vote on this.

I’m pretty sure glam-rock will romp home an easy winner.

I’m going for prog-folk, with massive flared jeans and really over-wah-wahed lead guitar.

If we’re getting esoteric about this, i own a. balalaika. Please note owning an instrument does not automatically endow the gift of being able to play it.

I’d rather people didn’t share this knowledge. It looks much more impressive if people think I can /play/ all the instruments I have, instead of just enjoying them looking pretty.

(Drums, guitars, bass, piano, other percussion stuffs)

Oh, great. All these years of telling myself I could play a bodhran washed away in the blink of an eye. I suppose it’s a good thing the kids broke it…

My mate once went out to buy 2 chairs and came back with a euphonium. That was before the divorce. Just thought I’d mention that.

Balalaika? Esoteric? What about a bandurria? Even if I’ve never managed to tune the thing. Also guitar, ukulele and five string banjo…

Just found this…

Been away for the weekend so only just saw this, but yay! Back in January when we were planning what you were going to sing at the party, and you mentioned that you really liked Y Gân Go Iawn but it would probably require a full band, I recall half-jokingly suggesting that we should start an SSiW band. In any case, as you quite rightly assumed above, you can certainly count me in! Also, I vote for “Y Cathod Ifanc” as name

I play ukulele and a bit of guitar.

this is me on my electric ukulele. I recorded it, but have no idea how I to play it now

Does anyone know if there’s an idiom meaning ‘cool’?
In the manner of the ‘bwci’ shop sign in Harlech I hope it’s more than ‘cwl’.

So I guess we’re ok for guitarists then? I counted 7, most of who can play something else, bass, banjo, ukulele, etc. also.

I’m not sure where would be easiest for a gethering en masse for a practice, Rob has made a suggestion, there’s also a place in Wrecsam that I’ve used quite a bit in the past that charges £1 per person, per hour and has all instruments and amps available to borrow including a pa.

I have only two albums in Welsh, Meinir Gwylim, bought after her performance in Gadlas om bootcamp earlier this year, and Elin Fflur - Caneuon, which is chock full of power ballady type songs. Does anything on either of them tickle your fancy Catrin?
