Six Nations

Anyone got a spare ticket for the England game?

Best I can offer.

I asked him this: If you could pick 15 hot Welsh women to make a Wales women’s team who would they be?…If I’m lucky you’ll be my guest.

We can’t even get a hotel room that night in Cardiff  we’ll be watching the game from the pub and training it to swansea!

When I was going to all the games i could, I would start booking at the end of the previous 5 Nations (as it was than). I went to the '91 World Cup and was among the ā€˜honorary Aussies’ at the final with the words of their new anthem ā€œAdvance Australia Fairā€ printed out!! To our surprise, we ā€œWelsh Aussiesā€ found that the real Aussies wanted to see the words too!!! Anyway, if you want a hotel room in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin, London, Paris or Roma on the night of a 6-Nations match, book it in March-April 2015!! I would actually recommend booking with a travel comany specialising in rugby tours. For Twickenham, book seats on trains and commute on the day! from Jackie

Brilliant night Friday at Clwb Ifor Bach with Candelas, Swnami, Yr Eira…these young bands have such power and presence via mae hen iaith i’r Cymru…for those who don’t want to go home after the game they are holding a long session of primarily Cymraeg music with Bromas playing live…if I can work out how to download the poster I will otherwise go their gwefan or via www.gilydd.com C’mon Cymru!

Ther’s full coverage on S4C as well:

Here’s the Welsh team…What do you think, Aran?

WALES TEAM TO PLAY ENGLAND: Leigh Halfpenny (Toulon), Alex Cuthbert (Cardiff Blues), Jonathan Davies (ASM Clermont Auvergne), Jamie Roberts (Racing Metro), George North (Northampton Saints), Dan Biggar (Ospreys), Rhys Webb (Ospreys), Gethin Jenkins (Cardiff Blues), Richard Hibbard (Gloucester), Samson Lee (Scarlets), Jake Ball (Scarlets), Alun Wyn Jones (Ospreys), Dan Lydiate (Ospreys), Sam Warburton (Cardiff Blues, CAPT), Taulupe Faletau (Newport Gwent Dragons).

REPLACEMENTS: Scott Baldwin (Ospreys), Paul James (Bath Rugby), Aaron Jarvis (Ospreys), Luke Charteris (Racing Metro), Justin Tipuric (Ospreys), Mike Phillips (Racing Metro), Rhys Priestland (Scarlets), Liam Williams (Scarlets).

At some point, we’re likely to pay a high price for the way Gatland has treated Adam Jones. Samson Lee is a terrific prospect, but Jarvis on for 70+ minutes if Lee takes an early knock doesn’t bear thinking about.

Other than that, no surprises. I’m looking forward to seeing Ken Owens and Gareth Davies back in the squad (I think they’ll be our next long term #2 and #9), and I’d imagine that Gareth Anscombe will get his chance off the bench at some point, but all in all this is a very settled squad.

If England manage a win with so many big players out through injury, it’ll be a huge blow to our chances of getting out of that group in the World Cup…

Seconded.

Would really like to see more of Scott and Liam Williams too. They’re two of the most creative attacking players in Wales at the moment, and I’m not just saying that as a lifelong Scarlet!

I’ve got a lot of time for Scott Williams, and it’s seriously tough on him that there isn’t room on the bench.

Liam Williams, on the other hand (while indeed a fine attacking player) still owes everyone in Wales a pint for that truly appalling travesty of a ā€˜tackle’ against South Africa in the summer…

Thanks a lot, Aran, I’d blotted that out…Obviously not Gatland.

Yes, his temperament is definitely his achilles heel. But, if he can keep it in check, his wonderfully reckless JPR moments - in attack and defence - add something that you don’t see that often anymore in the regimented professional game.

Hi Jon,
Coleg Gwent are hosting a Six Nations night in Penallta rugby club, 6:00 till 8:00, Wednesdy evening. Field positions in Welsh, lyrics to rugby songs suitable swear words for the ref  .
I think it’s free and all welcome of course. I’m aiming to be there, sounds like fun.

They’ve just promoted this on Radio Cymru so hopefully they’ll be a good turn out. Sounds like a lot of fun. They will be teaching - Sosban Fach.

Here’s some lightheaded Six Nations banter…

Also, the following link is a fabulous resources for anyone feeling the need to get vocal and polish up on a few traditional Welsh songs before the tournament. Apologies if this link has been shared before…

Rugby Vocabulary; is there a compendium of rugby terms to accompany S4C commentaries? What, for example, is 'line-out- in welsh?

And if anyone has any energy left, visual or vocal, the big game on Sunday is ā€˜table-topping’ Ebbw Vale v Cross Keys fyw S4C am 4…Ebbw Vale is just great at the moment, a funicular railway is soon opening from near what was the top entrance into the Eisteddfod Maes - but is now Coleg Gwent - up into the town…Not as scenic as the seaside ones perhaps but a fair old thing to build.

Duw, there’s proud I am of my home town. :star2: A funicular railway, yet!
Wish I was down b’there instead of up by here Friday night.
