It’s coming up again - October 15th where you are challenged to start as many conversations as you can in Welsh with a friendly shwmae in the south or su’mae in the north.
Watch for participating events in your area, e.g. caffis that offer a discounted coffee and cake if you greet them in Welsh, and other activities organised by your local Menter Iaith organisation.

Shwmae Su’mae Day 2026 – Who Says Shwmae?
Shwmae Su’mae Day returns on 15 October, and this year’s theme is “Who Says Shwmae?”
The day celebrates the people who use Welsh and their stories, sharing the message that Welsh belongs to everyone. Schools, workplaces, organisations and communities are encouraged to get creative, start a conversation in Welsh and share their celebrations.
Keep an eye on our social media to see how we’ll be celebrating across BGTM – and remember to use #shwmae26 when sharing your activities!

Just bumping this up as it’s TOMORROW, so make sure you give it a try! Wherever you go - but especially in Cymru - greet people with a friendly Shwmae in the south, or Su’mae in the north, and you may be surprised by the number of Welsh speakers you come across
