Do I understand correctly, that there are two words for “shake”, Shiglo and Ysgwyd, and that they are interchangeable?
yes David, they both mean ‘shake’ and are pretty much interchangeable. In some instances you can also use ‘crynu’ although to me that is more ‘tremble’ than ‘shake’.

When my little poodle shakes her soft toys to “kill them dead!” Which word for ‘shake’ would folk use?
personally I’d so for siglo, but can’t speak for everyone!
my mutt does that with his rubber bone before handing it back to me to throw again. trouble is, he usually thwacks me in the leg in the process!

I’d go for ysgwyd there…

…and remember, in particular, that “ysgwyd llaw” is rather more appropriate than “siglo eich llaw” unless you’re a children’s entertainer.

My little dog is noway formal or polite when trying to kill her poor toys. I tend to think we’ll go with ‘siglo Scweleffant’ and ‘ysgwyd llaw’!!! (The toy is a soft squeaky snakey thing with an elephant’s trunk!).
ah well - just shows my hwntw roots lie deeper than my aquired gog-ness!
