SaySomethingin Italian (Beta)

I’m currently doing some testing on the new version and only finding a few small things to tweak here and there, so I don’t think it can be far off.

Maybe it’s already corrected in the new version of the course, but until then, just to answer your question yes, the translation of “the best way” is “il modo migliore”!

Is there any update on when the new version of Italian with all the corrections will come out? I would be up for going through some of it again at some point.

Me too!

Hello all, enjoying the course. However, is there a way to extend the timer?

I’m finding I barely have time to repeat the phrase as the timer is much shorter than the Welsh course. The Italian speaker often starts 75% into the timer too, cutting off the timer before it’s finished.

(using ios app)

There isn’t a way to extend the timer, however you can always tap ‘Pause’ just at it reaches to the top, then Play again when you’re ready.

As you work through the course though you’ll find that you get the Italian out more quickly as you become more familiar to it, and after a while the gaps don’t seem so short.

Grazie Deborah - thing is, you never know when it’s going to interrupt you. Sometimes the next prompt kicks in at 60% of the timer, sometimes it gives you all the time. It’s inconsistent. On the Welsh course, the next prompt always waits until the timer is done before starting again.

Not a big deal, I can pause as you suggest, it just breaks the flow a bit and brings attention to the app rather than the language. I’ll keep at it and hopefully get faster so it won’t matter.

Ah yes, there is a ‘sync’ issue with some of the courses that the Tech Team are working on. That’s what is causing that problem, but it’s gradually getting fixed.

Ah, for future reference for anyone else, this only seems to affect the ios app. It may be because I’m running it on an ipad. The automagic on the web doesn’t have sync issues and gives more time to respond.

Guys, is there any chance of an answer to my question from 2 months ago? I appreciate that you are busy, so I hope it’s OK to repost the same question:

“Is there any update on when the new version of Italian with all the corrections will come out? I would be up for going through some of it again at some point.”

Sorry Martin, yes, everyone has been super busy, juggling several things at once, but I’ve asked your question of the Development and Tech people. We probably won’t get a response until after the Christmas/New Year break, but hopefully it’s not too far off now.

Just a head’s up but the sound file when introducing the word “I have” is broken, it just sounds like a whirl of static and rain.

I have just logged in after a week or two absence and noticed the course I was taking is labelled as old.

What is in the new Italian course, and how should one decide whether to start over?

There is a new version of the Italian course which contains a lot of improvements. People new to learning Italian will only see that one, but those of you who have already been using the previous Italian course will see the ‘old’ option.

Depending where you are, you can decide to start from the beginning of the new version, or set yourself a couple of belt colours back in the new course and see how you go.

You can adjust your position by clicking on ‘Account’ then ‘My Languages’ and using the little pencil icon there.

In the new course, the little pencil does not work. When I tap the pencil, it changes to X.

I think I’ve found an error and I also have a question.

  1. The error (I think): I think the following examples require a “di” (“di cosa”, “di come”). Please let me know if I’m wrong about this. It seems to be one of the app’s “go to” phrases to practice new verbs. So we’re talking about several sentences repeated dozens of times rather than 1 or 2 sentences repeated a few times. I have only posted 2 examples out of several.

  1. The question: is it really correct to use the participle form after “fare pratica” as in the example below.

My brain parses this (possibly wrongly?) as “I want to practice BY speaking” rather than “I want to practice speaking”. I would have expected a different structure. This structure is recycled an absolute ton in the course, so I want to make sure it’s correct. Is it correct with this meaning of “practice speaking”?

@Deborah-SSi @gisella-albertini

Yes, and the box showing the current belt turns into a dropdown with a little arrow. Tap on that and you’ll get the whole selection of belts to choose from.

And then tap on the X after you’ve selected and navigate back to home :house: icon

Hi!

@gisella-albertini will be the authority on this if she has some time, but to me they all sound fine

You’re right about the “practice BY speaking”, but that just makes it a different way to say it! To me it sounds a bit like “practice through the method of speaking” (as opposed to listening etc). I would probably say something simpler myself but this pattern is in there to avoid other mapping issues, and I don’t think it’s wrong
