Re-locating from Brighton to Burry Port in September

Hello everyone… I am in the process of moving house, home and business for a one year on, post marital breakdown ‘NEW START’ (where are the dancing emoticons??!) in September.

I shall also be starting a part time humanities degree at Swansea University.

I originally hail from Cardiff so have some lurking and very vague memories of primary school Welsh, but the impulse to be a fluent Welsh speaker is growing stronger every day. This middle aged brain of mine is wanting a language based challenge. All feels a bit, gulp, though.

My intention is to start lesson one. Today. Maybe. What is this procrastination all about? Resistance. Why??? I shall also join a beginner’s Welsh class once moved to Burry Port in September.

Reason for my post? Just wanted to say ‘hello’, and to start putting out the networking feelers in preparation for the day.

Nuala (Irish name pronounced Noola)

Welcome Nuala, my suggestion is for you to start right now! That will give you an enormous advantage when you start your class in September, no doubt.

Welcome Nuala. Sounds like you have exciting times ahead. You will definitely make huge progress with the Welsh here. Pob lwc!!

Hi Nuala, and a very warm welcome to the forum :sunny:

Good luck with your move - and when you’re ready, there are plenty of people keen to be practising their Welsh in and around Swansea, so you’ll have no problems finding opportunities.

Let us know how it goes :sunny:

Hi Nuala

Welcome to SSiW! I am from Burry Port and went to my very first Welsh group there when I first started learning Welsh. The group now meet on a Friday morning. ( I assume it still does)
Alas Burry Port is not as Welsh speaking as it use to be when I grew up there but I am sure there will still be lots of opportunities.
I live in Swansea and we have a Welsh group up and running since 2011. I can ensure a warm welcome there when you are ready as I started this group with my partner Owain ( Lurch)!
Good luck with your move and with your course!

Hi Nuala, if Friday morning in Burry Port doesn’t work for you the Carmarthen group meets on alternate Thursday evenings and isn’t that far away. Do come and and see us.

Thank you so much everyone, I feel very welcomed!
I have my moving date now - 19th September.
Once settled and sorted I shall get myself along to the most convenient Welsh learning group to my area.
I’ve started listening to Radio Cymru in the mornings as suggested by the SSiW course tutor, and I’m loving hearing the language again. Yet to launch myself at lesson one, but it is my FIRM intention to start SOON. Ahem…
