From Gwyneth Glyn’s “Adra”: Does unman yn debyg i adra, ond mae adra yn debyg iawn i chdi (There is no place like home, but home is very much like you.)
I love this line, because it brilliantly conveys a deep feeling of being at home with a person, exactly how I feel about my wife.
3. Is there popular Welsh song you feel you should like because everyone else does, but you just don’t?
I don’t know about everyone, but I have heard so many good things about Datblygu, that I tried listening to them a few times. Sorry (@gisella-albertini ), maybe my taste in music needs to datblygu mwy
4. Have you had any live experiences of Welsh music?
As I was lucky enough to attend the 10 year Anniversary, I also enjoyed the accompanying gigs of Cynefin, Meinir Gwilym, Manon Steffan Ros and Gwibdaith Hen Frân. Also during the subsequent bootcamp I went to the Gwyl Cefni in Llangefni where I saw acts like Blodau Papur and Fleur de Lys (and a few more)

Rhys Gwynfor - Canolfan Arddio; I love the tune, it’s uplifting
Bwncath (my band of the season) - Fel hyn da ni fod
Bryn Fôn (i had to choose one of his) - Strydoedd Aberstalwm; it took me a depressing amount of time to realise this was a play on words. A nostalgic view of Wales

“Mil gwell gen i nag aur y byd,
Yw gweld dy wenau yn dy grud,
Fy ffortiwn wyt, a gwyn fy myd,
Fy maban bach.”
As a new father this really resonates with me. They’re a beautiful description for how I feel every time I look at our son.
Is there popular Welsh song you feel you should like because everyone else does, but you just don’t?
O Gymru. I think it’s overhyped.
And even more contraversially “yma o hyd”. The message isn’t powerful enough or full of enough hope for my liking. Wales and Welsh has done more than just survived. But I do “get” the song and enjoy singing it. I just think we could do better.
Have you had any live experiences of Welsh music?
The entire Eisteddfod last year was basically me seeing all of my favourite artists. Highlights were Bryn Fôn on the main stage. The Gwerinos in Tŷ Gwerin. Fantastic!

If you were to host a gig at a Welsh landmark, where would you choose?
That’s tricky because most places I love in Wales I love because of the tranquility or natural beauty, which is added to by the atmosphere. However, I think a gig in Blaenau Ffestiniog slate quarry would be atmospheric!

So, let’s pick different bands (not sure they’re going to meet @hendrik taste either - but oh, we don’t have to like the same things, It’s good that people list different bands for more variety!)
Cate le Bon - Hwylio Mewn Cyfog
Adwaith - Y Diweddaraf
Big Leaves - Pwy Sy’n Galw?

Well, my favourite lyrics have always been those involving humour - often dark humour - rather than romanticism.
There’s some along the whole song (including some kinda nonsense playing with the sound of words which I also enjoy a lot). And I just can’t help laughing every time I hear this: Rho i mi dy galon Ond paid a colli gwaed ar y llawr
(from Datblygu - Ms. Bara Lawr)
3. Is there popular Welsh song you feel you should like because everyone else does, but you just don’t?
Well, I’m really sorry, it looks like for many Welsh people it means a lot.
But I find it really terrible to listen and it’s a complete mystery to me how it could recently become a hit: “Yma o Hyd”
4. Have you had any live experiences of Welsh music?
Music sang in Welsh, unfortunately not yet!
Music played by a Welsh musician or band in English:
John Cale and Cate Le Bon
5. Make up your own Welsh Music Day question and answer it… Would you be learning Welsh if it wasn’t for Welsh music?
I seriously doubt it. I even accepted to answer a few last-minute questions for BBC Cymru Fyw again, this time on video (since radio and article weren’t embarrassing enough!)

Catrin - Gorkys
Caneon - Ynys / Lipstick Coch Adwaith
Trons Dy Dad - Gwibdaeth Hen Brân (or pretty much any song from Cedors Hen Wrach - I love it)
( ok that’s 4!)

From Trons Dy Dad (I’ll choose carefully)
Trons Dy dad
Efo’r twll yn y canol
Maen nhw’n wahanol
They are cheeky/ amusing - reminding me slightly of Max Boyce in the careful balance that they strike - focusing on the humorous aspect of a silly situation. But…the music is great - and generally I would say I don’t like the folk music genre (their talent has broken my mould)
3. Is there popular Welsh song you feel you should like because everyone else does, but you just don’t?
Um, no, I don’t really think like that.
4. Have you had any live experiences of Welsh music?
I saw Papur Wal and Los Blancos in Leeds in the basement of an old petrol station - only smelt slightly of petrol I played in a band in Wales - but we sang in English - so it doesn’t count!
