Plygain Season 2025/26

It’s that time of year when Plygain services start popping up around Cymru, and beyond, so here’s your new thread where you can check on this year’s opportunities.

The main website to keep an eye on is www.plygain.org where they list all the events they know about, but if you hear of any others, feel free to let people know about them here.

And for anyone who isn’t sure what Plygain is all about, I’ll see if I can post a YouTube video that explains it and gives a beautiful example in the comment below, as it doesn’t want to post here for some reason.

Nothing on this year’s list on the website yet but there’s a Plygain service at St David’s Cathedral on Friday 12 December at 7pm.

The list is up now! (Although I can see a mistake already.)

Wow! That’s quite an extensive list. Am I right in thinking that the popularity of Plygain seems to be on the increase? I certainly hope so! It’s so beautiful to hear.

I think so. I try and attend 2 or 3 each year and a couple are within walking distance (for a given value of walking distance). Having them listed in one place helps, and even then not all make it to the website.

Sgwrs: Hanes y Plygain - Ffostrasol

If you’re anywhere near Ffostrasol, this local history society is a wonderful group to get to know. They’re very friendly and welcoming to new Welsh speakers, and the whole evening is in Welsh so a great opportunity for immersion. And the topic this month is the History of Plygain in Ceredigion!

Tafarn Ffostrasol, 7.30yh

Y siaradwr gwadd fydd y Dr Rhiannon Ifans, a’i thestun fydd “Hanes y Plygain yng Ngheredigion”.
