Percentage falling down

In the beginning of the course I felt it was quiete easy to remeber at least 90% of the words and sentences. Now I’m learning level 2, lesson 4 and I find it more and more difficult to get the percentage above 50%. Is this normal or should I change my way of learning?

I’m not sure about percentages but…

I had the same feeling. It feels like everything is moving faster and it is hard to pluck the correct word or phrase from the depths of my brain.

However I kept pushing on to finish, even though I was unsure how much I was retaining.

The second time through I was surprised at how much I knew.

I’m now on my third run through and I feel like a complete know it all.

I don’t know how this works but it does.

If I may use an analogy here - think of it as walking up a hill. At the lower level, it’s easy to keep a brisk pace, but as the gradient increases, that pace is naturally harder to maintain. However, changing the way you walk up the hill isn’t going to get you to the same pace as before - you just need to lean in, plod on, and although at times it feels like you’re not getting higher, you are and will eventually reach the summit!

Thank you, Siaron. I can relate to what you are writing. Imagened a steep treeless steep hill and a cold wind somewhere in Wales.

Thanx, Ken. I suppose I just have to hang on in there. After all I did learn English too!

Yes, but also visualise the sunlit uplands you’re aiming for!

There is “remember” in order to parrot/mimic, there is “memory for recall”, and then there is “the long term retention of items which are being built into your re-structured mind, mental life, social functioning, social life, conceptual framework, cultural expectations and outlook…”

Hey! The construction site is busy… You gonna fuss ‘cause the site manager can’t watch each part of each process simultaneously, and track the movement and deployment of every building block, each trowelful of mortar, or each pane, frame or hinge? Each element of “human resource” is handling multiple tasks & functions - maybe best not to fuss too much about doing an ongoing internal audit simultaneously, in parallel: forget the stocktaking, for now. The directors & shareholders don’t need a dividend payout so soon!

Yep! You built an English/Anglophone estate to inhabit. Now you are working on your investment in Wales/Welsh (and its investment in you)! No fretting about the building materials & processes! Perhaps laying good foundations/utilities access is boring, but all of a sudden the frame will go up, walls and roof timbers and the roof itself (water & windproof - slate?!)… Then you enter a whole new phase…
